Whats the SB 25 like compared to the likes of the 24, 26 & 28's?

Yes
As title really?

Its not one I hear spoken of much...

I have one. Seems similar to my SB-26, although minus the optical slave. Also, compared to the SB-24 it goes down to 1/64 power, so it's a little more flexible.

Cheers EmZee!

I have an SB-26 and am very impressed with it. I think I'll persue the one I have found then. I can add a cheap optical should I want it.

You're welcome.

If you're happy the job your SB-26 does then I'm sure that the SB-25 at a good price will be fine.

I have the SB-26 and the SB-26 and to be fair pretty much the same flash but as said above, 26 has the optical slave which is a good feature.

Just stick with the SB-25 and SB-26. SB-28 is a bit smaller and stuff but then costs a bit more as it's newer

SB-26s seem to be going for daft money at the moment on Fleabay :cuckoo:

Thats the only reason I haven't bought one yet. I'd prefer one overt a 24 but they are all a bit ott at the moment.

Ok, missed my chance on the SB-25, the price sky rocketed on fleabay and I missed the auction end.

Found an SB-50DX, any one used/got one?

Was that the 25 with the broken foot, by any chance?

Avoid the SB-50DX, it's considerably less powerful than the usual suspects and only has one manual power setting -FULL power :nono:

Thanks for that heads up flash, duly noted and will be removed off my watch list!

It was indeed the one with the brokedn foot. I wasn't too bothered by that. I was surprised to see how much it went for mind you.

I was after that SB-25 myself, but only if it had been cheap. Take a look at the wee SB-20, it has adjustable power output and usually only runs to around £18-20 on ebay ;)

Cheers flash,

Yet another that I have not considered. I guess its down to experience and being familiar with the SB kit. What kinda adjustment do you get?

I have got an SB-50dx that i dont get on well with at all. I think that will be hitting flebay soon!!

I'm looking for a few new flashes to go with the SB-800 i got last year, i think i maybe able to pick up a SB-25 for about £50. No flashes seem to be going cheap at the moment.

You get full, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 1/16 power with an SB-20, The only problem I can see is the design of the head....

I thought that last night. Great for blowing a background, having behind a brolly etc.
Not all that great for fittinng snoots and grids though.

Ok so i can pick up an SB 25 (with non extras) for £65 or £79 (with case and box) along with SB - 24 £65 (wit no extras) or £89 (with case and box).

What do you think i should do?! Which flash should i get? do you think these are over priced?

Will

Keep looking - I got a near mint SB-24 with it's case from a dealer a couple of days ago for £45 ;)

I've actually used one of these

with the optical trigger, in a brolly and it was actually pretty good. You can't adjust the power, but it's so weak that it's useable as it is.

Cost? £1 (new) plus p+p

Found out where you got that from... lucky you!! Very good deal there. I should look in that secontion more often!!

Would you say SB25 or 24 which is better?

I've never used an SB-25, but tbh I'd buy any of the 24,25,26,28,80 models if the condition/price was right :)

Cool Cool sounds good,

The SB-50dx goes on ebay tonight and I will then be being an SB-25 unless a 24 or 26 come up a the right price!

What do you consider as a decent price for those right now - or at least the 26?
I bought another 26 last week for 50 quid. It's as close to absolute mint as I've seen in a flash that's so old. Looks like it was bought and then put away in a cupboard and forgotten about. I was a little unhappy at paying that amount, but the condition of it sealed it for me in the end.

I can't say I have. I don't often use Ebay. Yep, that's absolutely crazy money.

I think that yours was "the deal, the steal of the century" £50 is a brilliant price. DO you mind telling me where you got it from?

Yeah do spill! And if you did ever want to get rid of it I'd happily take it off your hands and make sure you didn't make a loss!

I'm after anothe two flashes ideally, but the current prices are so high, or so good I'm not fast enough to buy before they sell!

I'm partly regretting getting my SB800 now.... wish i had got some SB24,25,26's.... oh well.

Got a few photo shoots planned with in the next couple of weeks so better get my act in gear and jsut get one from a shop asap!!

It was a private sale. I had a look at what else was on offer, but there was nothing I either wanted or considered a decent price. Everything else appeared well-used, but the 26 is in really, really great condition.
A few months ago I got my first 26 online - and I think that one was only 60 quid. That one appears only slightly more used than the 50 quid one. Can't remember now where that came from - maybe harrisoncameras.co.uk

There are still bargains out there, although sometimes very hard to find.

I bought a used (but fully working) SB-26 from cantebury camers for £30 about a month back - deffo worth checking in AP clasfieds to see if there's anything knocking around. I know Mifsuds had SB80X flashes advertised for udner £100 if that's any help.
