As with fashion there appears to be styles of photography thats the "in thing" So what is it now, macro, landscapes, b&w, etc etc ? and do you think this has any baring on how people judge others work.
 
Not really sure what I would say is the current in thing, last year it was definately HDR but that seems to be on the waine a little now, not saying people are not still doing it but it's not in every thread at the minute. Wedding photography seems very popular at the minute may be just the economic conditions or the curent membership?
 
Personally, I'd say never mind whatever the 'in thing' is, just find your 'in thing' and concentrate on that. For me, it's wide angle stuff and panorama attempts at the moment.
 
Black and white film is making a big comeback.Put it down to the tones and lifecycles that evolve. It's good to see people using film again.
 
The "in thing" not a clue. I admire all sorts of stuff that others do.

My in thing is always changing else I'd get bored.
 
Light painting seem to be all the rage. And why not? It looks like a lot of fun to do.
Otherwise, I didn't think there is an "in thing" in the world of photography.
 
It's gotta be ultra wide angles judging by the amount of people buying them!
 
Bokeh? I mean as a subject for photos, rather than a backdrop for an in-focus subject. Maybe that's on its way out too...
 
Colour on film, especially large and medium format. b/w will always be around ... colour's where it at right now.

I don't think ultra wide lenses are in at all, I bought mine over a year ago and everyone was talking about them then :shrug:

really? i thought they seemed really popular still!

ok, ill change my answer to the 50mm prime. there just seems to be an explosion of interest in them despite (id imagine) the majority of them being on small sensor dslr, which kinda misses the point of the 50mm focal length in the first place ;)

saying that they are cheap and sharp, and even on crop still a nice focal length, but why werent they this popular a few years ago towards the beginning of the cheap dslr boom?

Quite a few of my photos feature Bokeh as the Foreground/Background and Blur as the Subject, I'm still not sure if Bokeh should use the thirds rule or not :thinking:

Again, they were all the rage back when I got my 350d more than a year ago ;)
 
The in thing since 1st of march is trying to get camera gear at a decent price in bloody rip off britain :annoyed:

How about a Tilt-shift macro infra-red Lomo with selectively coloured HDR processing taken at f1.2 with a super slow panning action.

have I missed anything ?

Tilt shift seems to be getting ever-more popular, seems to be going quite mainstream now so I imagine it will be the "Flickr style of choice" for 2009 (taking over from over processed HDR, obviously ;))
 
I would have said tilt shift too. Nothing wrong with having fads in photography, really. It's great to discover interesting new techniques after all!
