Yes
I have a reasonable tripod/head but it's pretty heavy. I'd quite like something a lot lighter that I can take with me when 'urbexing' or whatever. Is there something reasonable I can get for £30-40? I'm not expecting amazing quality for that much, but do I need to spend more to get something usable?

Thanks

Have you considere a monopod for that sort of dosh? The problems with cheap tripods is a stability issue. I have a couple of cheap ones but wouldn't want to put a 5d on them.

Thanks, I've got a monopod - but would like to be able to do some HDR and long exposures etc. I've actually used a Gorillapod SLR Zoom clone with reasonable success with the 5D but would like something I can put up a bit higher.

I have one of those ASDA ones. Think it was £8 when I got mine, but seen they were £12 the other day. Worth a punt at the price...it's not the greatest piece of kit, but it does the job in a lot of situations.

Also..being interested in the same question, as I take my camera cycling with me, and the ASDA/Star one is just too big....I found a smaller version of it in Currys (same make), which would fit into the back of a rucksack. Can't remember the price, but it wasn't much.

Think I'd like something sturdier personally though. Must be something out there. Something small and stocky.

I have one of these

Didn't pay £40 for it though, at that money it's damn near RS money now which I would have got had there been the £50 deal back then.

It's light enough that I don't notice it when I strap it to my bag. Stability is okay, but of leg wobble but nothing major, can be knocked over easily if you get it from the right direction but I'd guess thats the same for any tripod. Heads not up to much so I use the one from my RS monopod.

I have spent the evening practicing with 200mm at low shutter speeds and it put up with me putting some weight on it as well as the gears weight just fine (so far I must mention).

Best? Small? Cheap? You will have to sacrife one of features.
You can give a try Slik Sprint Mini II GM @ Amazon . It's small, comes with ball head, cheap?, but not the best for sure. Slink website does say anything about how much it can hold but I think 1 or 2kg will be tops.

I've got the one down from maninsuticase, £24.99 is what it seems to go for from most places. Argos link.
I actually bought mine in ALDI one of the times they were selling photography gear, I'm sure it was about £12. It's nothing special but does me for the odd occasions I use it. I've got the feeling that if I had a better one it would get more use though.
