Whats the best Head for a Manfrotto Monopod?

Hi Jon,
Check out the Giotto 7002 ball head, some like it some dont but it holds a fair weight.

i use just a quick release plate on the monopod and mount the lens to it i can remove it in secounds then

imho ball heads are a pain they make things heavier and slower on a monopod

Agreed, maybe just the simple one way tilt head they do, but a ball head is a right pain on a monopod.

I have a Manfrotto 681B monopod with 234RC Tripod head, I have just purchase a Nikon 80-200mm lens to use with me D700 and was wondering if there is another tripod head i should be using on the monopod

The 234RC should be just about be alright with that lens, although I wouldn't want anything heavier. Indeed, I'd recommend a better monopod head if it weren't for the fact that the only real alternative is the Really Right Stuff head - which costs $250 and is only available from the US.

Having re-read the OP "681B monopod with 234RC Tripod head"

The answer is no, there is not another tripod/monopod head needed. I use the 679B and 234RC with my Canon 1D IV and 70-200 2.8 IS no worries at all. Personally I should have gone with the even cheaper 234 without quick release plate.

Use a Manfrotto 486RC2 (ball head) on my monopod, and it has no problem supporting gripped body with a 100-400 lens.
