Just curious to see, and maybe learn from other people good and bad decisions.

My Best decision was to get a Tripod, even though it was only £15. I have used it nearly every time I have had the camera out, and it has helped getting snaps i couldn't have hand held. I also see it as a tool to help with so many other areas in photography (Macro, Landscapes etc.) that I have not hide time to do yet.

My worst decision is to get a Fuji Bridge, rather than sticking an extra £50 on a used DSLR and lenses. WHilst the Fuji is good, I think I am missing a trick without he DSLR option and ability to change lenses and in hindsite would have gone DSLR.

And yours are??

Well...

I guess buying the Bigma, it cost over £700 notes and I never use it. Erm, other than that - not studying and reading more about light when I first got started? I feel a year behind where I could be.

Best decision? Buying a 5D, it made a huge difference to the pics I was taking It was exactly the right decision at the right time for me.

Worst decision? Not learning how to use flash properly. Still working on that one but I'm getting better!

Same here. I've had mine since April, and now I really want a 50D.There are just too many compromises in the 400D, that now I kind of know what I'm doing, are really starting to bug me. It's been a great body to learn with but now I want something more.
 
Worst: Selling my Nikon 80-200 2.8 AF-S

Best: Ignoring some 'advice' and sticking to my particular style with Motorsport Photography instead of following the pack, as it were
 
Best - Investing money from pic sales into better lenses & D3.

Worst - Not having enough confidence to take the opportunity to do some portrait / people pics when asked. It would have been highly paid. I struggle with photographing anything that breathes! This will change in 2009 hopefully.

Nothing wrong with the Sony camera itself, I do love it, just that I was always expecting to grab things on Ebay for it as I'm only really doing this as a hobby, and don't have wads of cash to spend. :(

For what I want at the minute, 50mm f1.8, 300mm, Battery Grip, pair of batteries to go in a grip, and a hotshoe flash, priced up like for like on Ebay, and the Canon is working out at £190 cheaper for just that lot. Reckon I should just switch over before I get stuck into a lens system, only have 2 atm for the Sony.
 
Best decision was definitely buy a Dslr, its turned a vague hobby into a profit making passion.

Best - spending £400 on a D-SLR (400D)..
Worst - Buying a camera because now i want to keep expanding my camera bag, but can't afford any lens' :(
 
Best decision - buying a Canon 500mm L lens for my nature photography. The extra light this faster lens (compared to the Bigma) lets in helps keep my bird pictures sharp due to the higher shutter speeds - I get far more keepers.

Worst decision - leaving my camera gear in the car overnight as I hadn't taken any pictures to download, and was going back out the following day. Some little 5#!T decided they needed it more than me and helped themselves to it all £2,300 worth.
 
Best - Deciding at the age of 39 to go take a few years out of work and go to college and study full time for a BTEC National Diploma in Photography. Im' now in my final year and will hopefully be going onto University in September to do a BA Honours Degree.

Worst - Not having the courage or enthusiasm to do it sooner.

Best: Recently, it would going digital. It's re-awakened my love of photography and opened up so many opportunities for me.

Worst: Making my living from photography, it totally killed my love for it and I didn't pick up a camera for around four years.
 
Best: Going digital - completely rekindled my love of photography
Worst: Borrying Woodsy's 80-200mm f/2.8 and realising what a massive difference expensive, good quality glass can make
 
Best - Deciding to randomly buy a 300D with my student loan 3 years ago...
Worst - Hmm...don't really have anything I regret...yet!
 
Best - Breaking my leg to recover my passion for photography which i had lost at A level in choosing my girlfriend and going out over concentrating on the projects

Congratulations sincerely... Im only 21 and i wish i had the balls and determination to step on my pride and go back to uni and do a degree in photography.

Best - Listening. Irrespective of what you think, there is always something you can learn.

Worst - Playing it safe when an opportunity presents itself rather than pushing the boundaries.
 
Best : Getting the Canon 30D because the Nikon D70s was not in stock.
Worst : Buying a B+W Kaesemann MRC SLIM Circular Polarizer , over priced for the Kaesemann and I don't think it's as effective at my previous cheap Hoya.
 
Best: Realising there's more to photography than point and shoot. Fully appreciating the awesomeness of wildlife as a result of using my camera

Worst: Buying my first 'L' lens :nono:

And well done for doing the degree at a later age. Shows it can be done and photography is the way I'm heading as well, at the age of 36, well 37 at the end of December. Hopefully a new career for me! :woot:

In 2009 I really hope to have the chance to take trips to different places to work with wildlife and be able to show subjects in all their glory through the lens :)
 
I'm enjoying all your comments guys and gals. A wide variety of good and bad decisions. Interesting to see how many list these as one and the same.....

Best - Deciding to get a Fuji 602Z which got me interested in taking pics again after 10+ years

Worst - Buying a monopod. I've used it once in over a year. :shake: Not a huge mistake in the grand scheme of things though. ;)
 
Of recent years:
Worst: buying a Sigma SD14 (because it was cheap amongst other reasons)
Best: buying a Nikon D300 (because it is what I really wanted in the first place)
 
Best decision was taking photography back up as my hobby
Worst was selling my beloved 400mm apo lens
