Wonder what went through the persons head once they noticed their error:

Was it a very old gravestone?

Old English spellings are different to moderne spelling

its about 150 years old I think..

the line reads: "My God I bow before thy throne"

bowing before gods "thorne" might be a little odd and misconcieved
