I haven't watched any MotoGP for a couple of years but watching it now, what is with the riders having to pit and change bikes........never seen anything like it.

So its only this race then or is it across the board, even the commentators keep saying its ridiculous.

New track surface and the grip is so good the tyres are wearing too fast and this is the best solution on grounds of safety (that's my understanding anyway )
Don't think they had any testing since the resurface,so it's just this race I believe
...and the change over bikes were set up for dry running,so not weather related

A one off. Although tbh it did make the race very interesting in that the riders went hell for leather in both sections of the race.
Hope it doesn't become the "norm", I doubt it will. Season is wide open again now between Lorenzo and Marquez. Only slightly more interesting than F1 :)

Must admit it was interesting, especially seeing the black flags coming out.

I've followed MotoGP for years and years on EuroSport, since the 80's?
Then ViaSat bought all rights a couple of years ago and would only show it on their (pricy) sports channels.

Think MotoGP lost loads of viewers by that move?

Funny thing is, that I can now see the races on my "normal" sport channels that are included in my TV package.
Viasat probably didn't sell that many tickets after all?

But in the meantime, I've lost all interest... :D

SuperBike and BSB is imho much more interesting!

Really? This year has ben brilliant, virtually every race has had the top 3 fighting throughout the whole race plus 3 more fighting for 4th place, mainly Rossi winning the battle with a lap to go till the end.
We've had contact amongst the top riders and brilliant tail sliding (a la Stoner style from young Marquez) with smooth as silk riding from Lorenzo to show an alternative style. I'm surprised you haven't enjoyed it.

So far they have shown maybe three races "over here", I think.
The two, I tried to watch, was interrupted every 12-15 minutes with commercial breaks... :gag:

And Rossi! Followed him from he started in the 125 class way back. Always been a big fan!

Btw. the stupid and rude commercial breaks have also ruined Formula One for me.
Have followed races for most part of 50 years now (sic!), but this is the first season, where I've lost interest as well.

Thank you Viasat! :D

bridgestone wouldnt guarantee their rear tyres past 14 laps, they revised the race down to 26 laps from 27, they then revised again down to 20 laps, this meant a mandatory bike change half way through for safety reasons. Local riders who use the track regularly were saying the new surface has been ripping through tyres even worse than the surface that was replaced.

It was on bbc2 today (in free hd too). No adverts there.

Would love to see the actual wording of what the orders were that they were given regarding when they had to pit.

Thought it was quite clever of some of them to pit at the end of lap 10, shame they got penalised....did seem quite chaotic though.

Last I looked ,Esbjerg was in Denmark, mebbee i`m wrong.

Was a mad race, I joined it early in the morning half way through with the sound down.. I was like, WTF is going on!

I'd not heard Steve parish get angry ever before, although he was very professional about it you could hear his tone and inference change, 'demanding' to know who is at fault for Marques missed pit window at one point.

Marquez was penalised because he pitted on lap 11. Don't know why he didn't come in, but they made it quite clear that lap 10 at the latest for pit.

from my brief reading of info after the race he came in at the end of lap 10, so crossed the line (to go on to lap 11) in the pits. I could be wrong, but that seemed to be the opinion at the time.

looking now it seems to have changed to him coming in on lap 11, and starting 12 in the pit.....which just seems madness and can't see the logic of why they even tried that!

Hes young and excited and has never had to do a mandatory bike change as its his first season, maybe he just forgot what lap he was on, or the wobble he had right before the pit on lap 10 (believe it was) may have distracted him from coming in

I think a little (little:thinking:) wobble at around 150mph would make me want to come in and change something........and it wouldnt be the bike.......
