Beginner Whats more important? Processor or storage

Im stuck between 3 laptop specs for photo editing.
One has an i5 dual core processor, 8GB Ram, 1TB HDD, Dedicated Nvidia 940mx graphics card.
The other exact same machine with an i7 processor is £100 more.
Or, priced exactly in the middle, is the same machine again, with a slightly smaller screen, i5 processor, 8GB Ram, 256 SSD, and IRIS dedicated graphics card.
All have an IPS Anti glare screen.

What would you go for?

I don't want any other options please. It has to be one of the above 3!

OS on the SSD and add an external (or internal if possible) for programmes and data and the machine will fly along :)
 
I have a portable 1TB that I store all my photos. Is that what you refer to?
Can I run PS/LR off a portable HD?

Yep. Depending on the connection (USB 2/3/Thunderbolt etc), it's generally not as quick as using an integral one. Ideally, keep the photos on the external drive, but have the LR catalogue on your internal drive. If you build smart previews when you install, you'll be able to edit/mess about with the photos even when the HDD is disconnected.

Could be ... I replaced my laptop HDD with a 960GB SSD, (around £260 now) and fitted a 700GB HDD in the DVD bay + I have 2 x HDD's in an Icybox twin drive hub plugged into the USB port
 
Well, due to stock issues, I had to go for the i5 version with the 1TB HDD. I've loaded NIK EFEX and Lightzone on and its running sweet. Only about 37GB used up. All photos will be stored on my portable HD. A massive improvement on my old Samsung. Thanks for all the advice.

Perfectly true.

If you've created previews & smart previews lr doesn't even access your stored files except at publish/export.

appreciate its an old thread but advice still stands. get the catalogue and at the very least your working set of images on the SSD and then you can archive off to slower storage once editing is done.

I remember the thread (vaguely)

But LR has moved on a long way. And a number of versions. All adding some brilliant new tools and improving the ways things work. Once your smart previews are generated. (Which weren't around in 2012. )LR will only reference the original files at publication (even then only sometimes) no need to store any images on your SSD
