i feel so embarrased asking this question but dont want to just run out and buy a camera and lenses without having a clue.

ok so here goes lol i dont quite undersand what all this 18-200mm stuff means at first i thought it was the larger the mm the better close up photos can be taken but have seen different since i joined. :help:

Well there really isn't any need to at all.

I'll stay off the techy stuff and stick to what matters. Big numbers are lenses that magnify, small numbers are the wide angles that get lots of the scene into a shot.

On most digi camera 80 is about neutral and takes a picture that's about the same view as your eyes see. So the 18-200 that you mentioned is a zoom lens that adjusts from a wide view, through to a magnified one, or to use the photographic term, telephoto.
