As I posted yesterday, I'm looking to get back into taking photos after an enforced break, and i'm wanting to write a list of what i need to get.

I'm not interested in specs/makes/models of anything, I'm just curious to know what you all consider to be necessary to take along with your camera and lens(es).

for things that have different types, i.e. filters - just the type of filter will do, for example, polarising, UV, ND etc.

So... What's in your bag?

I carry too much crap in my bag, lets take a look..........
3x lens cloths,
flash gels,
4stop ND & ND grad,
cokin P filter holder,
bit of welding glass,
rocket blower,
12x aa batteries,
body cap,
spare camera battery,
2x 8gb sd cards,
flash & flash stand,
USB wire,
2x charity wrist bands,
spare tripod plate,
cotton buds,
cleaning fluid,
battery tester,
plastic bag,
ir remote,
pens & note pad,
150gb portable hard drive,
camera battery charger,
business cards,
anti slip matting........
Don't think I've forgotten anything:thinking:

All of my adapters for filters as well as lens hoods for the lenses. All of my filters, CPL, UV, Grads and ND. A few of them are Cokin so they're kept in the rectangular boxes, the screw in ones are all kept in their individual cases and placed into the pocket of the bag.

All of my cleaning kit, including rocket blower, lens fluid, several microfibre cloths, lens cleaning tissues, Lenspen and dust brush. These are mostly wrapped up individually in little bags to stop them attracting dirt and what not.

Spare SD cards, remote triggers and spare batteries usually just thrown in wherever I can fit them.

This is just my every day stuff for when I'm out and about, so nothing really specialised - no flash or tripods unless I'm specifically going out to use them, so if that's the case I'd take my other bag which has a whole bundle of other items such as cables, SD card reader and battery chargers.

What do you use the anti slip matting........for ??

I have just, (in the past few weeks) gone back to basics. I realised I was shooting most of the time in a 'FL' range of 18-70, and yet I was dragging all sorts of tosh around, very uncomfortable. So now, its down size to a D5000/18-70mm, cleaning cloth, couple of SD cards, pen and a note book. All in a small KATA bag, that drops into my 'man bag', with the detritus of every day life, no big sign 'here be an expensive camera' and yet, now, I can have my camera with me 24/7, never need to miss an opportunity? Rearrange the detritus and I can ad a 70-300mm long lens is I have a special destination or subject in mind . . . flexible;)

As you can see, its modular, so if I really am out with no intention or opportunity, I can leave the camera module at home. Works for me.
