Excuse my ignorance but whats HDR?

It's High dynamic range imaging, but no offense, you'd be better of using google, first hit on HDR takes you to Wiki that explains it all. Or have a look here.

Stands for High Dynamic Range, A HDR shot involves making a composite of usually three different exposures with bracketing, so you have all the Shadow detail with a long exposure and also keeping all the highlights in with a shorter exposure, and then a normal exposure for all the middle bits. The three gets superimposed on top of each other with software to create the HDR shot.

most of the ones i have seen look amazing and definitely something i want to learn. thanks for the speedy replies and help, very impressed with this site by the way, and i apologise for how basic some of my questions may seem.

questions may be basic to you, but they were basic to everyone at some point. No question is silly apart from the one you dont ask.
