No
Over the last few years we have seen some "new" ideas come into photography,i.e HDR images and also the colorising of B&W pictures. Wether or not you like these techniques they have become very popular with some people.
My question is what do people think will be the next big thing in the world of photography?

Probably 3D.
Canon aren't taking my smell camera idea seriously.

before they demise they'll need to come up with an alternative that works as well

I wouldn't be surprised if it was 3D, the amount of money which seems to be being thrown at 3D TV.

You might just be right, but i'm not sure if 3d tv's will take off,but maybe when the future generation ones come out which don't need glasses it may be a hit.
Does cs5 allow you to create 3d images now?

3D has now became a major part in my photography degree this year so I would agree that seems to be the way it is going.

I reckon it could be black silicon.

Can't see 3D becoming big, its two expensive. could you imagine paying double for all your lenses! :D

I don't think we are far any from doing away with shutters and just turning on and off the sensor. (don't know why that haven't don it already!)

I think the Sony NEX3 and 5 have hit a nerve and there will be alot more serisous compact cameras,

Stuart

This may sound dumb, but do you have to have a 3d tv to be able to view these 3d pictures? How do you go about editing on a laptop?

Despite various magazines attempting damage limitation by giving luke warm reviews of the Sony NEX 5 - this represents a serious contender against the DSLR's going forward and it will be real interesting to see how this technology develops. If Sony had of got the menu right it would have been the herald of a white wash as far as DSLR tech is concerned.

laptops with 3d capable screens are available, you just have to wear the glasses

What's next?

A **** button/function or auto-delete with embarrassing beeper

You know so many 'basic' cameras have menu settings for Head & Shoulders, Mountain, Close-up, Night-time etc.

Well I reckon the software will check your image and if it's **** tell you so, maybe with an auto-delete function too that you could switch on; perhaps even with an auto-lock to stop you from using the camera if the % of **** shots is too high and then it could only be unlocked again by completing and passing a short photography course

TP would be so much better for it

I think the a33 and a55 will also do the same thing. The only 'issue' is EVF :(

You would need to wear glasses have a specail laptop and learn new skill sets in editing, I don't think 3D is a fad it will always be about about I doubt it will become main stream.

I taking there is a fair amount of "plastic cork" regrauding the new Electroinc veiwfinder, interchanable lenses cameras (fantasticly abbrevated to EVIL). If Nikon made an F-mount evil. even a D3100 with the Mirrors and prisims stripped out and made flatter I would buy it.

Oh wait the D3100 is the same sensor as the NEX3! :D

Apparently some new model has just been released that features this transluscent mirror technology that reduces the mount size - Sony A33 i think. Though I think the compromise is that its now EVF as opposed to a normal VF.

Well I guess all we need is for Apple to enter the camera industry with their "icamera" and it would be game over for everyone the way their products are currently dominating the market :D

Nex cameras have a firmware update that improves the menus considerably apparently.

I think some kind of mirrorless full frame camera with really good EVF and HD video mode could be pretty huge.

Multiple exposures on the same frame would be cool- almost like HDR but with a single image. Could do this with dynamic ISO set across the frame or something like that. Could get a massive range of highlights and shadows then.

I might be wrong....but I *THINK*....at Focus on Imaging 2010, one of the big companies were displaying their 3D cameras....but also a 3D Digital photo frame. And I think he said there was no need for the glasses to be worn

Actually. It was FujiFilm.

Just checked their website, and they are offering 3D prints?? How does that work?

Companies are just producing screens like that now- 12" is about $1200 and only works at certain ranges and 40o viewing angle. The tech has a bit further to go yet.

they got into the digital camera market very early said:

Wow You do really learn something

Super high vis DSLRs. Watched Click at the weekend and they were showing a Super High Vis TV camera - much higher definition that HD on a similar sized chip.

How long before that makes its way down to us?

Before I read that last point I honestly thought you were talking about luminous green cameras for a second.

Need more coffee.

I have a small advantage in that I used to sell them :D

Utterly obsolete by modern standards. Very cool at the time.

Though using Apple Quicktakes and also getting to play with the early Kodak DCS bodies convinced that I'd wait for an affordable DSLR was launched before buying a digital camera myself. It took about six or seven years with the 300D.

You didn't hear this from me ;)

Selective Metering will be in higher-end range of DSLR. Basically, you can select the exposure for the whole sensor, and then adjust the settings for each cell within; a built-in ND / NDG filter if you so wish to think of it that way.

How many adjustable cells will there be? No idea, but sufficient to give us the NDG effect we require.

Now that does sound very plausible, looks like we have some interesting stuff ahead to look forward to!
