What's caused this?

Just got these back and they're not quite what I expected

Both shot on the Nagaoka on outdated Fuji Velvia, pretty tricky light as they were shot at about 7 on Saturday as the sun was rising and there's an enormous amount of lens flare but the second one is just weird.

Here's the same one scanned all the way to the edge.

does the effect appear around the edge of the negative - i.e. outside the image area?

I've added another scan as you can see the marks go all the way to the edge Arthur.

And I don't have a beanbag anymore

Ah... zooming in it looks like some sort of deposit on the film, though odd that they are all round... biological? (I'd go with some metal oxidey-type but what do I know?)

I'm not sure if their history, I'll have to check with Ed when he gets back of his hols.

These are two sheets of Velvia from either side of one dark slide, both exposed on Saturday morning posted to processors on Monday and arrived back at my place on Wednesday morning.

I will ask the processors and see what they think it could be.
