What's all this new TP stuff then?

I'm not sure I like the idea of change. Will we still have the leather wingback chairs? Will Roberts still be dispensing the brandy on the hour? Will the Times still be ironed and delivered on a silver salver?

I need answers to all these questions and many more I shall pose after my nap.

Nope they plan on making the film section in to a soft play areas for members children while the adults are out playing...

Most of them sleep in padded rooms already so should feel at home in a soft play area.

You might want to send Roberts for your angry trousers.

Off for a nap in the padded darkened (or is that dark) room.

Marcel will have to keep F&C, don't worry - if he didn't, I'd end up roaming around the rest of the forum annoying people :)

Actually - we've been running a "sandbox" version of the new software, basically banging on it with anything we can to try and break it, and not only does it look rather spiffing (albeit slightly different) there are some VERY nice little features in there...

One that impressed me was "scaling images" in quotes... so when someone quotes a post with 6 mahoosive images, you just get 6 thumbnails automatically.

Now all we need is a filter that turns "Asda Scanning" to "I'm too Tight to get it done properly" and we'll be in business..

The best changes that could be made is to allow us to upload shots direct from our hardrive at about Asda scans of 1800px.

the New gallery software that comes with the changeover is rather nice too... might save you actually having to fork over the cash for a decent hosting site.

Oh sounds interesting :D not that I've forked over cash in about 4 years now :D

I spy them all

Roberts! Roberts! Quickly fetch the shotgun.....I spy peasants.

Ahhh... I see, so this explains the boxes stacked out the back. I had a quick peek and found signs of leather padded upholstery, serving platters and some stuff in bottles called 'Fixer' - I assumed it was something Matty had ordered :suspect:

I'll never catch on. People won't want to give up the feel of the current forums that they've gotten to know and love, and if the marketing and advertising does persuade them, I give them 5-10 years before they're hankering after the old school forums, checking out all the software sites and asking how they go about developing their own.

^^^ Tee Hee....

That's a negative outlook.

Well lets hope it develops into a better Forum then! :naughty:

earwigo, another crop of bad jokes!

I'll stay with this forum for as long as I lith

Change is inevitable...except from a vending machine.

try going to Tesco's instead :lol::lol::lol:

There is a very old saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it" so true even for here. I just can't understand why on earth one want to change a very successful site where everyone knows the way around it. beats me.

Maybe a vote on the change would be the way to go to get members feelings before going too far???

If we're trading old sayings, how about, "if it isn't broken, fix it until it is". ;)

Times changes and any forum needs to stay looking fresh to attract new members while introducing features that people would be used to from other social media. For example, how often do we see posts from new members asking how to upload their photos?

Sites such as these cannot exist by only providing services to existing members as they'll stagnate and eventually people will go elsewhere.

I doubt any of the owners or moderators would object to members setting up their own forum should they not wish to use the new one.

Baz!! Don't worry, you WILL be able to find your way round the new one too, it isn't going to be as different as some people seem to be worried about. It will still feel like TP with just an added bit of spit and polish and some additional features that we can use [as well as plenty of add-ons we can look to use in the future if it would be beneficial to the forum]

OK, let me put it another way.... if staffroom grumpy old men Mark and Chris have managed to find their way round it .... you'll be fine.

Now, I have been asked to consult you guys on the wallpaper in your snug... William Morris or some nice flock? :D

This thread is transparently beginning to slide into the soup. Time to reverse it?

(Bit laboured, I know.)

I think William Morris would do nicely

Wallpaper, what kind of talk is that....we demand oak panelling, dark and smoke-stained to match our moods.:D

Think of all the changes they made to "The Royal Mail"before they sold it.

:shake: Still wish it wasn't Blue and White... really need to lean on Marcel and get a Grey theme sorted asap. but (my minority colour scheme preference aside) the new software is no problem to get to grips with...

Oh - and I did SAY we were going to need the Oak Panelling, didn't I...

There is a grey option and black and white already.
