What's a 'Nifty Fifty' lens?

I've got a Canon 400D.............

Cool, I was just asking because if you had an entry level Nikon and you attached their £90 50mm f1.8 it wouldn't auto focus.

But since you're in the Canon camp you're fine.

never known anyone buy equipent and sell it without using it properly like you Danny :cuckoo::D

yeah i know :P hahaha

its a man thing!

and mine is for sale via ebay guys as i dont do classifieds on here atm

These threads are deadly... saw it, read it, went and bought it....

nifty is amazing, but don't know if I will keep it for long as the f2.8 zoom is plenty enough. but the fifties weight and IQ uhhhh !!!! .. could write songs about it !

Forgive my ignorance, but in what situation would you want a lens that is fixed at 50mm and cant zoom?

Perhaps portrait photography?

anyone got any thoughts on the 35mm as opposed to the 50mm? i've got a dx body (d5000) so i wouldn't be able to autofocus with the 1.8 nifty fifty (unless i get a £300 1.4 afs). So yeah...i was considering the 35mm 1.8 afs at £150ish.

Any situation - you use your legs as the zoom :)

I have the 50 and 35, and use them equally, although probably use the 50 more indoors than the 35.

The 35 is a great lens for the money, and the fact that it will AF on your body is a big plus if you don't like MF.

As far as I am concerned, the 50 is so cheap S/H (about £70) that you could buy the 35, if you don't like it you could probably sell it on for not a lot less than you paid for it (they commonly seem to go for £140ish here) and get the 50...
