Hi all.,.

I have a Nikon D5000 and I need to get a tripod for general use. I am hoping to take mainly landscape images, and some low light. I am also looking for something that will allow me to get low to the ground.

What would you suggest ?

Thanks

Ian

I'd look for a tripod with a rotating centre column Ian - just about the most adaptable design you can get for getting into awkward places and getting really close to the ground.

Thanks for your reply, but I am a bit new to this, can you show me an example of what you mean pls ???

Does it need to be as light as a feather or are you man enough to use a heavy tripod :D

I'd highly recommend the Manfrotto 055XPROB. I wouldn't recommend the 804RC2 though. I'll let an expert recommend you a head!

I guess weight is going to be a consideration if you're humping it over any distance. have a look at the Benbo Trekker?

Ross's pic shows a good example of a rotating centre column. Don't be tempted by one with a conventional centre column where you invert the column with the camera hanging upside down underneath the tripod. They're a nightmare to try to use - let alone get your eye to the viewfinder.

i use a Manfrotto 290

with a 3-way Manfrotto 115 head but changed for a better Giottos MH 5001 head

tried a ball head -- not for me as a 3-way allows better adjustments for landscapes...IMO

have a look at "Red Snapper'' ...''here''.....TPers get 10% off too

I use a Manfrotto 190, but with a 410 junior geared head, 3 way precise adjustment. Its invaluable for doing panoramas ( great for interiors and macro as well), it also has a built in level
