'Scuse me being a noob/idiot (delete as appropriate) but how to the Canon ones work? Do they just slip over the lens or something? (Never owned a Canon)

I dont actually know how it works, apparently for some types of canon you can download different types of viewfinder ie grids, etc, from a website and then install onto ** cam.
I read it in a review for the 5d. will look into it a bit more.
 
nikon flash system on a canon...i.e. off-camera/slave system wirelessly linked.

..a man to carry my growing kitbag perhaps?

What an interesting topic

I think there are only three things Nikon are missing compared to the Canon range

1) MPE 65 for macro / super close up
2) 5D Full Frame (i.e a prosumer Full Frame body)
3) f4 L series lenses (quality without the speed)

If I had to pick one I think it would be the f4 L series, although the Full Frame prosumer model would be a very close second (and I think there will be a Nikon one of these by the end of 2009)!
 
As a Nikon owner I would steel the weather proofing of the E-3 along with the swivel screen. I would also steel Canons constant f/4 line up of L glass. I.e: 70-200 f4 IS, 24-105 f4 and so on.
 
Prior to the D3/D300 I could have thought of a few things. But now I think Nikon have nothing missing. Granted for wildlife I'd like a camera with the D300's crop, but the D3's frame-rate and noise-quality, but no-one does that at the moment (and I suspect that Nikon won't yet be able to either, as compressing the photo-sites onto a DX-size will adversely affect noise).

As far as what I would like - only one thing, but it's the one area where I., a Nikon owner, has real Canon lens-lust! That's Canon's MP-E 65mm macro. I really wish Nikon made something like that! Granted I can go 5x lifesize on the Nikon with two lenses, reverse mounting, sticky-back plastic and double-sided sticky tape (plus a responsible adult to help), but the MP-E 65mm is such a really nice package!
 
As a Canon owner, I'd like Nikon's remote flash facility and the resolution and depth of field of a Hasselblad.

I don't ask for much, honestly :)

Canon dont offer anything with the noise performance of a D3.
Dunno why anybody would want an F/4 zoom range either...F/4 is F/4 whoever makes it, whotheck wants F/4:shrug:

Anyway, I want th.....no.... I donate my Nikon badge and buy the Nikon 5D and a Tesco bag to keep the crap out.:)
I say donate, cos I like the whole thing, wouldn't change anything but the name.
Sigma lens caps are that crap design too.

I'd prefer to spend less on an f/4 L lens than a f/2.8 L lens for my aviation work as I find myself shooting anywhere from f/8 upwards. No point in having f/2.8 then, is there.
 
As a Canon user a macro lens with IS would be great like the VR Nikon

Nikon lens caps for sure, come on Canon - give us centre pinch, is that so much to ask?

Also the Auto-focus mirror lens from Minolta/Sony would be nice on my 40D.
 
I would like to see Nikon do an equivalent to the Canon 10-22. Why they can't do a aspherical 10mm lens I have no idea.

I dont want to see any more f/4's in the Nikon range than there allready is, you can keep em in the Canon line up for f/8 aviation, with pleasure.

The f4 L's come with IS and are a good "mid-range" lens. The other qualities of the L are there (weather proofing when on a 1 series, etc)

The 5D was out a whole TWO YEARS before the D3 so Nikon have hardly stolen a march here and a replacement will be along shortly to no doubt show other makes the way forward for prosumer cameras.

Nikon are good I will always say that but they share a neck and neck race with Canon which they have only just shown a neck in front with. Unfortunately if FF DSLR is your game then Canon must still be the weapon of choice. If speed then I doff my cap to Nikon.
