No
I purchased a lens on eBay, and it was described as glass being clean.

The lens is pretty clean, but there is a dot on the front element - I've seen bad, obvious fungus before, but would you say this is the start of some fungus as well?

Its hard to say but it does look like fungus to me,i take its under the glass in which case it could spread :(

Incredibly difficult to tell with the naked eye, to be honest. And it's a massive front element (82mm filter size).

Could you not get it out in the sun and kill it off?

Tbh if you paid little enough I'd keep it as long as you'd not lose much if you sold it.

Should've added - I'm not concerned about getting rid of it (done it before) or any effect on image quality (they hardly do) - just purely from an "accurate description" point of view, more than anything.

it would bug me to be fair, how much was it a cracking deal?

can it be cleaned

It was £45 + delivery, which for a 6x7 lens is pretty good. There aren't that many sold listings, but it was good value, and I definitely acknowledge that.

If it was a cheap price it wouldn't bother me and as long as you think you can resell it at anytime, but then you could have another decision :- You could notify the seller with a pic that it was "not as described", then he\she could either refund a small amount or ask you to send the lens back.....................................................................

For the price I'd keep hold onto it and put to good use.

Forwarding a message and accompaning photo to the seller won't harm and you may be fortunate enough to obtain a part refund.

If I was selling a lens on Ebay and there was a clearly visible spot on the glass I would mention it. However if I didn't know that much about lenses would I know to look for it? Or notice it but assume it was just dust? If someone is specifically stating that the glass is clean I'd expect them to have checked it reasonably well. I also believe in being fair though, if the seller has lots of positive feedback and seems like a good Ebayer it's probably a genuine mistake.

Just an update, received a part refund on the lens. I believe it was a genuine oversight, and I gave the seller the benefit of the doubt throughout our communications. He's a photog, for sure, but it was a very easy thing to miss.

I didn't hesitate to give good feedback either.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts, always useful to get a consensus of sorts on these matters.
