I'm uploading a set to my Flickr page now that shows how it should be done.
Only those who are already added as friends or family contacts will be able to view as it's not for public viewing.

Added as a contact on flickr, I am 'STU_FARNELL'

Redhand contacted staff providing a link which confirms Splog's version of events. He also asked if we would apologise on his behalf, hence the reason why the thread was opened. He has already apologised publically on other forums where he questioned the legitimacy of the photograph. It's not easy to admit you're wrong so fair play to him :) I suspect he also wanted to PM splog but with only 4 posts he couldn't, as I remembered when I tried to PM him :$.

Personally I think there are one or two others who also owe Splog an apology.

Just thought I should add to this that I have seen the apologies that Redhand has made on a couple of other forums and as Dod says 'fair play to him for doing so!' I have acknowledged those posts by Redhand. I have also received several pm's from members here  as far as I am concerned apologies etc. are not required and would add nothing to the thread.

What I still don't understand is why the shot caused such anger on the Landy forums ? ... but that's perhaps a bit off topic here so I will ask elsewhere :) also thanks to other members and staff etc. for the support

Finally a note to the admin / mods, please don't close this thread just yet as there may be just a bit more to come out of this

some of those posts on the "landy" forums scared me. Never knew they had internet access in mental hospitals .....

Now now, no need to add fuel to the flames between the forums. They seem fueled up enough as it is without any more help :)

As said previously I have apologised to the OP, for calling his integrity into question and would like to repeat that apology on here. I initially assumed the photo was genuine, but when several people suggested it was a fake, It annoyed me. 4x4 drivers get an awful lot of bad publicity. From destroying the Ozonelayer to creating ruts twice as deep their wheels are large. So we tend to be a bit paranoid about anything remotely hinting at bad publicity.

I doubt very much anyone thought the car driver would be to blame?

Hi Redhand

I have accepted your apology here and on other forums and respect you for posting it  The whole thing is a bit strange really in that 4X4 drivers are being demonised for their choice of transport and us photographers are being similarly treated for taking photos  .... I dread to think how those photographers who have a 4X4 get treated, especially if they are towing a caravan :D

Luke, A smiley after that comment would have indicated humour and you probably wouldn't have been suspended, but based on your earlier comments the mods had no choice...

Glad the motorcyclist is ok. If you can get off the bike and slide without hitting anything you can get away with quite a lot. It's just when you bounce, or hit the huge amount of roadside furniture that we have these days that it starts getting really bad.

:plusone:

Agreed. I came off nearly 10 years ago and slid across a roundabout after getting smeared across the back of a mondeo (not my fault...they didn't see me and pulled out...though it took 2 months for the police to find him, and tell me)

It hurts like hell when you do it, but I slid on my back and over the kerb onto the middle of the roundabout (with a back/kidney protector). That was painful enough...cracked the back protector too.

Or when a Nissan lands on your head. Cost me 9 months in bed that one did. :(

Only a little one, it was a micra. I was only doing about 10mph at the time as I was about to turn a corner. He pulled out from behind some parked cars and floored it (typical boy racer), hit me head on from my left side, lifted up the bottom of the bike and it landed on my left leg, then the car landed on me. Snapped my left tibia in two, my back still suffers occasionally, and I have a few road rash scars to remind me of the event.

Thank god for kevlar helmets is all I gotta say. :)

Phew...I had visions of the Nissan Pathfinder or similar...but a Micra (if you have to get crushed by anything) is the car for it to be.

Definitely thank god for kevlar...

See, and there you go with the 4x4 talk again. ;)

Actually, 4x4 drivers (that is to say, the ones that buy a 4 wheel drive with the intent of actually using it to its potential - not those who just get one to take their kids to school and look fashionable) generally have been the more sensible people I've met on the road (although perhaps not on the internet - That was just a joke! :D). My dad's driven Land Rovers, Range Rovers and Shoguns pretty much exclusively over the last 30 years or so.

I might buy a 4x4 for the school / work run one day (*technically I already own one, the Bongo)...

I like them, big bling cars - a status symbol of sorts. Nowt wrong with it, the heavier on fuel the better. Top of the line Range Rover sport....white, low profile tyres, black wheels - 4.2 litre, supercharged.....MMMMM :D Yes please.

Gary.

Agh...It's contagious...

I agree, my girlfriends mum lives in deepest rural Cornwall and by far the worst people round there are holidaymakers who go round the lanes WAY too fast without realising that something could be coming the other way.

Plus, they CANNOT reverse for toffee.

Conversely, the "real" 4x4 drivers (defenders and the like) are courteous and sensible on the lanes.

Gary, if you want to do it properly, get an Escalade imported from the states; A black one with tinted windows and big gold spinners on the wheels to make sure everybody realises how important you are. :)

Admit it...you're not a studio photographer at all. You're Hearts' latest striker arent you?!

It sounds AWESOME :D

I would love my pick of the cars parked down art Tynecastle :) One of them is indeed, a big white range rover, black wheels, custom build - and it's a little bit rapid :)

I have absolutely no problem with flash cars, the flashier the better. I got my Elise in the brightest Orange for a reason, with the loudest exhaust possible for a Reason. I get called a W****R all the time....water, ducks, back :) I'm still the smarmy ******* parking in his drive at night.

I'm playing devils advocate a little here, I'm trying to illustrate that if you can afford a nice car, there is absolutely nothing wrong with owning one. They are better, they are more fun, they are a little outrageous - suits me to a T.

Exactly, it's really no different to the folks that can afford to go out there and buy a D3s or D3x and a few grand's worth of glass, yet consistantly take out of focus, incorrectly exposed, badly lit, crap images - or just leave everything in "auto" mode. ;)

Of course, their prerogative....and why not?

I remember someone on this forum comparing me to the "Rich banker who takes his GT3 to the ring, and parks it up to watch all the others have a good time"....

My Lotus was crashed at 6 weeks old, and 2 weeks after getting my license it was being killed at Knockhill....

I use the **** I buy :D

Nothing wrong with judging the car, bike or camera owner on their choice and ability either is there?

Well, that depends. It's often too easy for a large group to instantly label a smaller group as X. In my opinion in amounts to playground bullying at times, it's a bit ****.

Why should I be called a ****** every time I stop at the lights, just because I own a car which is bright / loud / whatever, and the guy behind me in a 600 BHP scooby get's no stick at all? Why is it when people see someone parking their £150K supercar in the street, they are instantly called posers?

This country has a serious attitude problem with regards to the divide in wealth. I am not by any means rich, but I have been extremely well off.

The last time I made this argument, I got the "poor little rich boy" reply - it was the perfect proof I needed to illustrate my point. I don't see myself as part of an elite group, or a club of "big earners". I earn what I earn, I own what I own. Almost all of my friends have a much more modest income, and they have never had an issue with it. Why then, when a stranger see's what they perceive to be wealth, should they get away with taking the ****?

Turn the tables, it's the equivalent of someone with money looking down his nose at those with less financial leverage, or the Bentley owner pointing and laughing at those with old bangers.

I don't expect any sympathy, all I can say, I'm not going to apologise for having money / or owning cool toys. I'm not going to look down on my friends or otherwise, who don't. I won't judge, simple. If you choose to, I'm fine with that.

the solution to this gazza is to give it all to me - less that nikon crap of course :p

Only 4x4 owner i really judge is the BMW X5, and that's because I've had 3 run ins with owners over the last couple of years. One was because I was doing 80mph down a dual carriageway but that wasn't fast enough for him. Couldn't pull over due to traffic and when I did he tried forcing my off the road.

Had I of been in one of my £800 bangers I'd of just let him hit me, but the missus wouldn't be too happy as it was her car :p

Another was coming back from London, again, 90mph wasn't fast enough and then when he pulled long side him and his mate started making gun signs at me. They got the finger, then it was a 40 minute game of cat and mouse. They'd over take and slow down in front of me so i'd overtake, then they'd overtake etc etc. *******!

Well, you certainly seem to have a problem about having money....:p

It's more the owning (or the desire to own) that I'm interested in - I see there is a whole faux elitism about being seen with the 'right' stuff. I guess it goes with the idea that shopping is some sort of leisure activity and what you do with it hardly matters. People end up wearing outdoor survival jackets to take the dog for a walk, have top end cameras to snap the children on holiday and luxury cars to go to the supermarket.

But if it makes you feel good - what the heck eh?

Well, I think quite a lot actually - it costs the earth material resources in wasteful consumption as this years dream bit of bling is cast aside (in an uneconomic to repair state) for next years. This incessant and unquenchable demand for adult toys is not even making people feel better - some even worry about what others think of their spending!

but all that makes survival jackets better, good camera gear cheaper and cars compete harder.

All good things in my book.

On the contrary, I have a problem with they way certain members of the general public seem to think it's OK to pick on those with a bit of apparent wealth behind them.

It's more the owning (or the desire to own) that I'm interested in - I see there is a whole faux elitism about being seen with the 'right' stuff.

Well, I'm not a brand whore. I buy more or less all my clothes now out of the second hand store next door, nothing elite about that. One day, I will buy myself a stupidly expensive dream car, a LAMBO is ultimately what I have my eyes on. Why? Because I grew up dreaming of such cars, every boy dreams of supercars and getting my hands on one would be my way of simply giving into that instinct I had as a kid. I couldn't care less what the guy next door thinks about it, I own four vehicles, and my regular runner is a MAZDA BONGO - and it's a heap of ****.

Contrary to my last statement, I own a lot of expensive berghaus gear, bought purely for the pleasure of landscape photography. Last time I wore it, about a year ago on my week long tour of the highlands. Came in very handy too :D

But if it makes you feel good - what the heck eh?

Exactly.

I'm at ease with my stance on the state of the planet and my effect on it. I enjoyed taking my 4.2 litre supercharged jag out and emptying £80 of petrol in an afternoon :) I don't buy into the "man made" argument, and probably, due to being a stubborn arse, never will.

Gary.

Yeah, but you see, there you can't look at it as a "4x4 owner" and tarring them all with the same brush. In this instance you have to look at them as a "BMW owner", and we all know what they're like. ;)
