What would you do with yourself, if you didn't have photography? Getting a bit of cabin fever here after a lengthy stay sorting out an elderly relative and I wonder what I would do if I I didn't normally have photography to amuse me (obviously not aimed at the pros who would be unemployed!). So what would you do instead?

All the interesting and exiting things I take photo's of in my life... I just wouldn't have pictures of it!
I don't live to take photo's, I take photo's because I live!
I would still restore and ride motorbikes, I would still go to motorbike meets and shows; I'd still go to see bands; I'd still have day trips & holidays with my family; I'd still go to 'events' and places worth visiting... that I go to because they are worth visiting, and have stuff worth seeing and doing, not just because I want to do something with a camera!
On it's own, photography is like Ketchup.. great on your chips, but you wouldn't make much of a meal out of a bottle of the stuff!

Car meets. At least having a camera gives me an excuse not to talk to anyone.....

I used to read a lot and I keep promising myself that I'll read more but in my free time I like to get outdoors so if I didn't take pictures I'd probably just walk more and maybe sit and read for a bit before heading back :D

Get back into Ham radio, and possibly RC model boats.

Still got your license? Are you aware that Ofcom has just revoked 500 ham radio licenses that were not renewed? If you had a license and callsign, you best check you still have. They plan to revoke up to 40,000 licenses if not renewed.

Lit of revoked licenses/callsigns.

If you're on there... you'll have to sit all the exams again. Fortunately, it's a great deal easier than it used to be.

If not on that list, make a move and revalidate it now...

I've not shot anything for weeks now. I only shoot when I've got a reason to shoot now. I never just go out with a camera. I read constantly. I enjoy my car in the summer. I write. I Travel. I work. I have many, many other things I enjoy doing.

Photography is something you should use to express yourself with, and if all you have is photography, then there's nothing to express with photography. Why not document the care of your elderly relative... document their lives, their history... include all the thing's they've collected, imagery they've taken.. mixed with portraits, and other imagery, it may be quite interesting?

Good photography is about something.

Havnt had an email, or seen anything in RadCom about that, you would have expexted some form of communication if they were about to pull your licence.

If I didn't have fishing I'd do more photography!

See I've gone the other way, I hardly get out with my tackle any more as I'm more likely to be out with my camera...was actually discussing it the other day with my dad, that these days if we were to go on holiday to the west coast of Ireland again I'd not be sure if I'd be going for the fishing or the photography

I have to go fishing because it's work - in a round about way. But I manage to combine it with a bit of photography too. :)

Fishing, walking, birdwatching, Photograph is only one of my interests.

The same as I do now but without a camera.

I would spend more time on holidays and fishing. Not that I have been short on holidays this year ( about 14 weeks all told ), but I have been short on fishing.

Its a hard life being retired.

Sailing. (But not in this weather which leaves the second choice of aleing !)

Interesting mix of responses. I won't be documenting my in-laws situation; that would be intrusive and not helpful at this stage. I was just curious about where photo time would go instead. I would probably walk more, read more, start writing again, get more exercise (when my knee gets better) ... Thanks anyway everybody. Happy New Year.

Maybe masticate more... Need to get me teef relined first though so they fit better!

Regardless... they've done just that to 500 people.

Letters went out 2 years ago informing license holders that renewal of the "license for life" was your responsibility.

If your call is not on that list, then just log in with the second link, and register if not already done so, and renew your license.

Ofcom don't care about Amateur Radio now they get no revenue from licensing.

with all those dodgy dogging sites you go to thats probably just as well :naughty: ;)

Doggers are wimps anyway, when I get my long one out they always run away before I can use it :(

Id be working in Mcdonalds or Tesco , stress free with loads of free time spare to spend with my family

It's interesting to see so many people talking about drawing and writing, and I think it ties in with something Pookeyhead mentioned too. I've flirted with music, art and writing but it's through photography that I truly feel able to express myself (some of the time, it's an ongoing learning process). So I guess if I didn't have photography, I'd still be looking for a way to communicate.

I'd actually become a rock star or bestseller writer. Or go down the pub. Mmm. The pub sounds nice.

I'd spend more time woodturning /carving, and my aspirations to write a novel would get beyond jotting down some ideas

Have to get a job, or retire to the sun ?

More table tennis, badminton, squash.

Swim, Stamp Collecting, Rebuilding my old Mini Cooper Engine, Sailing, Model Railway, writing a book...

Crazy thing is, I am so busy since I passed my business on to my sons and retired. (Even during my 11 month recovery from a health issue.)

Big world out there.

That said, I have not been without Photography since 1962.
