What would Ansel Adams have done?

Now you're just ranting childish nonsense. I can only respond to what you write, if you do insist on posting maybe you should be more thoughtful in doing so. Grow up.
And there we have it, a handful of comments and then the insults start. Congratulations at least you made a handful!

Now then, boys.......

Unfortunately Rich has this effect almost every time he enters a discussion.......:(
And so then in you join with an inflammatory comment and delude yourself it's the other person reacting! Haha.

In one of my earlier posts I wondered aloud if his method of processing and printing his B&W's was the equivalent to todays " over-saturated chocolate box landscapes". Do you have a view on that?

I really don't think so, no. It's by no means reality... no one suggests it is. However, one thing to consider is that back then.. pre-digital... what he was doing was rare, skilful and therefore worth more. Now anyone with Lightroom can do it.. it no longer requires that level of skill, so now it's worthless.

It's all about trends and fashion to some people, thing is they're almost always the people producing the least inspiring and most generic work. :)

Trends and fashions only become apparent after the fact. Photographers pick a style to emulate because they like the look of it. It's only to be expected. There must have been many thousands who attempted to emulate Ansel Adams and many who still do. There's only so much originality to go around!

What would Ansel adams have done ... he'd have looked at this thread, muttered "Oh ffs are they still arguing about this stuff, thats three threads now", then logged off his computer and gone and taken some photos

Well, he'd have produced them quicker. No longer any need to load up a donkey, just fire up the V8 4x4 pickup and away you go :D

Then he'd be back on here moaning about everyone getting in his way, how the whole place was now swamped with photographers, how easy it was these days for anyone...

Anyone who invents the Zone system must be a lot geeky. I bet if Ansel Adams where here now, like many people here would be micro adjudging the life out of his lens and posting photos of his garden fence to show us that his lens is really back focussing by 0.0005mm.
Maybe he was trying to photograph his garden fence but he kept back focussing on those dam mountains.

I'd like to think it was a discussion until about 7 pm yesterday.

Actually I'm thinking of starting a new thread. As he was a very sociable type by all accouints it would be - Would Ansel Adams have been on social media all day?

Wouldn't it be" Jump in the helicopter and ..... "

Galen Rowell has his own private jet which he used to fly from his home to the east of the Sierra Nevada to his gallery in San Francisco. He died in a plane crash. Live by the sword, die by the sword.......

EDIT: Sorry, that should have been "Galen Rowell had....." although I suppose that became clear in the second sentence!

I was thinking more the lil mule (romancing the stone with Michael Douglas). Not many have helicopters but plenty of v8 pickup in the US

I suppose a lot of the places he visited would have been inaccessible even with a 4x4.

Does it matter what Ansel Adams would have done, all that matter is what you do with your camera :)

The reason I posted the question is that a lot of people use Ansel Adams as a kind of landscape photography icon. Even if they know very little about landscape photography they will have heard of him and probably seen his work. As he died over thirty years ago he will not have had access to digital and it was just a kind of "what if.....?" scenario.

Well, in his last years he was concerned with environmental issues. Plenty of those in the last 30 years for him to apply his work to.

How would he have coped with todays celebrity culture? Embraced it to further his concerns?
