......in one of the threads, here's a pertinent heads up. Friday 9PM BBC Four HD - Ultimate Cover Versions at the BBC.

£1 to a pinch of s*** Roxy Music Jealous guy will be on. A cracker.

Sexy Thing - Hot Chocolate cover by yours truly

Haha that was awesome but I'm sorry all songs must come with video too, not black screen [emoji23] [emoji12]

most covers are poor... but some that i think are better than the original...

Gas Coombs - This time tomorrow (not too dissimilar to kinks original but even better)
Dr & Medics - Spirit in the sky
Pet shop boys - always on my mind

Good call with the Pet Shop boys, great cover

I thought Elvis's cover of 'always on my mind' was pretty good.

"Walk on by" the Stranglers, one of my favourite covers
And mine, especially the manic instrumental break that I'm sure Bacharrach and David never quite envisioned when they wrote it for Dionne warwick. I also like :

Sunday morning - Strawberry switchblade (sorry Lou Reed, two Scottish girls make a much better job of your song than you ever did :p )

Platinum IV / North star - Mike Oldfield (originally composed by Philip Glass and called Etoile Polaire)

1952 Vincent Black Lightning - Red Molly. Completely fitting that this band should (finally) cover this song, even better what a good job they make of it

Tangerine Dream did something interesting with Section VII of Music for 18 musicians, which they called "Love on a real train" for the score for the film Risky business (though it is not credited as a cover), which then got covered by "Global Communication" as "8:07"

Can't access utyoube at work... but here's my 2p worth.

'The Day before you came' by Blancmange, originally by ABBA

I've always really enjoyed covers. Some i like below.

Leonard Cohen Chelsea hotel by Rufus Wainwright

Anthony and the Johnsons Dylans knocking on heavens door.

All along the watchtower.

Hazy shade of winter

Rolling and tumbling

Sharp Dressed Man

I could post quite a lot. :D

@Cobra

Ahhh Pinups.... I bought that the day it came out (vinyl and again a few times plus CD and cassette for the car)

One of the WORST 'cover' versions IMO .... even though it was produced by Bowie with Boeie and Mick Ronson playing on it was Lulu's version of Man Who Sold the World.

The B Side (again IMO - awful) was her singing Watch that Man...

Even Bowie could destroy a song as in the Tin Machine version of Roxy Music's "If there is Something" (that said there is a 22 minute live version os Roy Music doing same song wil a 14 minute guital solo by Phil Manzanera in the middle - indulgent)

Ahhh well. One man's cover is another man's royalties...

I was always under the impression that was the original ?
"David Bowie wrote the song and also produced it,along with Mick Ronson.Bowie provided the backing vocals on Lulu's track.
The Man Who Sold The World reached #3 in the UK charts"

Yeah not a bad cover, but I still prefer the original :)

Me too.

When I heard this I sought out the original, but was disappointed since it was entirely what one would expect from an acoustic duo.
