What will your next major purchase be?

I won't be getting anything until i learn to use what i've got.

Well, maybe a flash..............

Better join me on a course, then! :)

Olympus ZD 150mm F2 and a second E-3 Body :D (Kidney for sale - one careful non-drinking / non-smoking / healthy eating owner!!)

That way i am covered with the from 70mm to 300mm (35mm Equiv) at a constant F2

That should see me through to the next 4/3rds Pro body........ hopefully

Chris

Ooooh you make me jealous, Chris!

Better buy one of the bags some of the others have outgrown to put it all in...;)

I am booked on a day course that will help me with set ups, light and exposure in weird situations. The next lens for me is going to be a secondhand 70-200 f/2.8 IS which I am looking out for now to replace my Sigma 20-200 f/2.8 which will go on here once the other one os safe in my bag!

After that I don't think there is going to be anything I need to add - unless of course Canon bring out 1D mk4 and people sell off their mk3's  :coat:

Might just be the best investment you've made for a long while, let us know how you get on. :)

Nikon D300 or D700 and a couple of lenses for me. Currently pondering whether I really need FF. ISO performance of the D700 is just so tempting (for weddings of course). Handled one yesterday (D700) and it felt superb.

Although you can get a D300 plus very good lens for the price of the D700 body.

Just to play Devil's Advocate for a minute, if I were a Nikon user (and I had enough money) I'd find the D700 hard to resist!

Fortunately (for my credit rating, marriage and probably my lumbar area), I'm an Olympus user so the expense (at the moment) stops with the E3, although there is always more glass!

The nature of your work tells me you need a D700 and I bet there's a little voice within you that says the same!

I desperately want to buy a D300, but with our second child arriving in January I think I would be hung drawn and quartered if I did.
More likely is going to be an SB600 with the money from my birthday.

Ah, but surely you will need the best camera possible to capture all those priceless, unrepeatable baby pictures. In years to come, when your child has grown up, your wife will surely look back at those treasured pictures with you and thank you for your foresight in investing in a D300! :)

Well im thinking a prime of around 300mm+
Maybe a canon 300 2.8 is, or maybe the sigma 120-300.

Not sure yet. It will mainly be used for motorsport and a bit of wildlife so will need to take convertors well.

Well, I have the range I want covered:

40D, Sigma 10-20, Tamron 17-50 and Canon 55-250 (and a Nifty Fifty).

So the next purchase will probably be a good tripod (Redsnapper I think!)

Very long term I'd like to upgrade to FF (prob a 5D... Mk2?) and get L glass (especially a 24L for street photography) and a 24-70.

A new body, come on that 5d mark II, 5DS, 6D or whatever it will be called!

I'm in the same boat man... then remind myself canon will probably give it a £2k RRP

D700 - but the price needs to drop a few hundred quid before I can justify it - even to myself! For the time being, I'll just carry on using 35mm for the wide angles.

Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS (this week i hope)

I think my next photography purchase will be a 10 Stop ND filter.

FF body for me and 70-200 f2.8, 10-20 and Im over the moon:)

Despite thinking I'd worked it out, I have to admit that I'm unsure again - I think I had worked out that the lens for me is the Sigma 17-70, but having bought the nifty-fifty and had a non-serious play I'm thinking that for the "museum" type shots, an IS lens will be more useful.

That said, I'm still thinking that the 17-70 is a very worthwhile upgrade to my kit, and the IS version can just wait a little longer...

Damn, I love spending money, but just hate the decisions that come beforehand!

I know what you mean, not easy, are they?!

Like most amateur togs, I suspect, I hardly finish paying for one equipment purchase before planning the next. In fact, I've still a looooong way to go before paying off my recently acquired Olympus E3, which was hardly a sensible financial investment in today's economic climate :nono: - but when did financial prudence ever figure high in a camera purchasing decision? :D

Nevertheless, it didn't take me long to start thinking, "what next?" The trouble is, I want so much! How do I prioritise this list? :-

Sigma 10-20mm

Zuiko 50-200mm

Peleng 8mm fisheye

FL36R Flash

Carbon fibre tripod

Then the answer came to me. I should be asking, "Which purchase would most benefit my photography?"

The solution? None of the above; I'm going to save for a digital imaging course!

What do YOU plan to be your next photography purchase, and WHY?

Cheers,

John

my next purchase was done yesterday...a 70-200 F/2.8 G.it'll probably be my last major purchase for a while,or until the wife gets over the shock of it costing £1200 .also, like you..i need to up my game in the digital imaging area, and start a course on monday to hopefully improve in that area of my photography...

My next big purchase is a holiday in Cuba so I can use what I already have as the weather here is terrible , oh and the wife wants to buy me a fisheye lens and even a macro lens, I wish

Were do i start

As for a lens, my next big purchase will hopefully be a 24-105 L, but alot more saving is required for that.

I can also see me upgrading my body to a 40D or maybe even a 5D as the prices are becoming more achieveable.

Or maybe I will just do some card bashing and get both:)

50D when my shares start going back up

D300 , and I am a Canon man.:)

D300 , and I am a Canon man.:)

Glad to hear it Xup!

My next purchase will be a 1.4 TC to put on my tele prime. Most likely a Kenko pro 3000 dg - comparable quality to the Canon TC but more flexible in terms of lenses which it will work with.

Well I bought a Sony A200 new c/w kit lens for £235 , then I sold a Camcorder with extras for about £650 and couldn"t pluck up enough courage to import a Sigma 100-300 F4 so I spent it as follows,

Tamron 17-50 F2.8 as new £175
Tokina 80-200 AT-X F2.8 £190
Sigma 135-400 APO 4.5/5.6 as new £208
Sigma 105mm Macro F2.8 new £244
Minolta 50mm 1.7AF £70

Total £887 soon adds up dont it.
Thats it all spent up ;)

Nothing major.

Prob renting a canon 10-20 from lenses for hire as I goto dublin next month gotta get them architecture shots in! Other than that more film for said trip prob some nice velvia and ilford :)

I'm waiting for a 300/2.8 IS to pop up at a reasonable price. Apparantly, I don't need anything else after that :(

Bob

:agree: with Bob, 300 2.8 at a good price, however Nelson will probably get his eye back before that so am awaiting the new Mk3 (N or iv).

Good luck with your decision

Rob

Well after paying Puddleduck for the 85mm f2 i've just bought I think its going to have to be a backdrop, props and studio lights till after Christmas. Then either an 85mm f1.4 (with the f2 coming back on here) or if the f2 does what I want then a lens longer than my 200 would be nice maybe a 400-500 that'll take a 1.4TC or save up and get something that will go longer to start with! I am trying to get lenses that my wife can use on her D40x or my daughter will be able to use on her D60 (shhhhhh she doesn't know about it yet its her 18th tomorrow :))

::cough:: 30mm f/1.4 HSM Sigma ::cough::

I've got my eye on a Sigma 105 Macro - but can't justify it until next year.
In the meantime, I need to give my PC some reconstructive surgery ! :rules:

Nikon F5, Because I can't handle my current film camera properly.

I know that the thing that would benefit my photography is more time togging, and more reasons to take good photos, To this end I'm taking all the optional journalism modules with my MChem degree*.

*sound's odd doesn't it "Masters of Chemistry, with Journalism and Welsh".

Chemistry has always been a foreign language to me:lol:. Good luck with the studies.

Rob
