What will your next major purchase be?

Yes
Like most amateur togs, I suspect, I hardly finish paying for one equipment purchase before planning the next. In fact, I've still a looooong way to go before paying off my recently acquired Olympus E3, which was hardly a sensible financial investment in today's economic climate :nono: - but when did financial prudence ever figure high in a camera purchasing decision? :D

Nevertheless, it didn't take me long to start thinking, "what next?" The trouble is, I want so much! How do I prioritise this list? :-

Sigma 10-20mm

Zuiko 50-200mm

Peleng 8mm fisheye

FL36R Flash

Carbon fibre tripod

Then the answer came to me. I should be asking, "Which purchase would most benefit my photography?"

The solution? None of the above; I'm going to save for a digital imaging course!

What do YOU plan to be your next photography purchase, and WHY?

Cheers,

John

I've just posted a thread asking about the Nikon 17-35 and 17-55. I want something as stupidly sharp as my 50mm but they're the closest.

But then it creeps into my mind if I'd upgrade to a D700 in the next six months... The 17-55 isn't FX but the 17-35 is. The ISO capabilities are immense and I want to do more wedding photography.

I think it's the 17-35 for you, it's prudent to ensure compatibility with the D700 - you know you will get one and it does look a truely awesome camera! ;)

From what I've learned, a good quality glass is gonna be your best purchase.
As for my it's gonna be a D300 and a few lenses.

Normally I'd agree, but in my case I still think the digital imaging course would do most to improve my photography. Just think what a waste it is, all that kit and I don't know how to get the best from it!

Good luck with your D300 though! :)

having just bought the 85L I think I'll hold back for a couple of months...

then get the 100-300 and the impending 5D mkII after the beta testers (first people that buy it) and found out all the problems and canon have addressed them.

Sounds like a plan! :)

actually having just read your first post I could probably do with a course as well...

scrap the siggy 100-300

Next purchase for me is a bigger bag! My Slingshot 100 is not really big enough for my ickle D40 and 3 lenses, cloths, SD cards, spare battery etc.

Before I buy any more kit I need to learn how to take pictures better so perhaps it will be a Digital photography course???

Sigma 300 - 800.

Next major purchase for me will be a flashgun, looking at the 430ex as it's a nice flash & I can't see myself using it that much.

50D & 120-300 2.8 (i can wish)

I'm waiting for a 300/2.8 IS to pop up at a reasonable price. Apparantly, I don't need anything else after that :(

Bob

Think next in my list will be an SB400, then a Sigma 10-20

70-200 F2.8 IS.

I've got the f4 and it's great at f8 but a bit pants at f4. So I bought a Sigma 70-200mm to get the f2.8 and I love it. In fact I love it so much I'm going to sell my f4 and Sigma f2.8 and just get the Canon f2.8 with IS.

I have a wedding in two weeks so I've been good and saved my pennies so I can now contact that nice Mr Kerso to order it. Then I can sell the others when I've got it.

Hmmm probably a 40d, the prices should drop nicely with the 50d out. That said I can see myself ending up with a 50d .
Non major purchase would be a Tamrac expedition 8 anyone use one? Or any of the expedition ones?

For me i would have to say my next major purchase would be either a decent tripod or a good wide angle lens.

Still not decided which I need more yet and which would be the most benefit to me.

As for a course, i'm still hoping I can get work to pay for mine :D

I desperately want to buy a D300, but with our second child arriving in January I think I would be hung drawn and quartered if I did.

More likely is going to be an SB600 with the money from my birthday.

I'm thinking either a longer fl range than the kit lens, something like the 17-85 or 28-135, give me some overlap with the 55-250 as I always end up with the wrong lens on :D. or a Macro lens.

mine is the Nikon 12-24 once LensFlare is back next week.

then saving for a Sigma 70-200 and a second body (another D200)

then a sflash, looking at the SB 800

after that we will see as i dont think i need anything else

1st - Still waiting for my pre-ordered Sigma 50mm 1.4 but still no release dates!!!!!
2nd - 3 Head strobe set in November with a little help from some bday money.
3rd - Getting a bit frustrated with the high-ISO performance of my D80 so a body upgrade may be in order. But that will take some getting past the Mrs!

Get to the back of the queue :p

I've been doing quite a bit lately where the 100-400, much as I love it, has really been struggling to cope. A bit undecided between the Sigma 120-300 or a fixed 300 but not really in too much of a hurry.

I`ve spent all i`m going to spend now.............wishful thinking I know....:D

5DMKii x 2, hurry up Canon !

Just ordered mine:

a sigma 10-20

will go nicely with the
40D, 400D, 24 - 105L, 70-300 F4L and the Sigma 120 - 400

Mines is gonna be a Nikon D2H -(love my partners camera But he wont swop.with me) So if I can sell my Fuji S2 then this is my next big purchase :)

Looks like this queue is getting longer.....

New MAC desktop, CS3 and Adobe Illustrator and some website improvements. About 3 - 4 grand I think, depending on the version of Illustrator I get.

Terrible amount of money. It takes ages to get it back.

Already smarting from the 300mm 2.8 IS purchase :)

Think I will just go out and take some pics instead of buying stuff hehehe

Nikon D300 or D700 and a couple of lenses for me. Currently pondering whether I really need FF. ISO performance of the D700 is just so tempting (for weddings of course). Handled one yesterday (D700) and it felt superb.

Although you can get a D300 plus very good lens for the price of the D700 body.

I am booked on a day course that will help me with set ups, light and exposure in weird situations. The next lens for me is going to be a secondhand 70-200 f/2.8 IS which I am looking out for now to replace my Sigma 20-200 f/2.8 which will go on here once the other one os safe in my bag!

After that I don't think there is going to be anything I need to add - unless of course Canon bring out 1D mk4 and people sell off their mk3's  :coat:

70-200 F4L for me.... just working out how to break this news to SWMBO....

Nikkor 24mm prime would be nice. If I work hard then the 24-70 2.8 would be cool:love:

Mine will be a Sigma 120-300 2.8:love: Once I have that little baby I'm done:thumbs:

:thinking:Though I could end up replacing one of my 30D's with a 1Dmk11n.....then possibly the other one too:lol:

<-------See my location:'(

That's up to another member on here but I'm hoping:)

Olympus ZD 150mm F2 and a second E-3 Body :D (Kidney for sale - one careful non-drinking / non-smoking / healthy eating owner!!)

That way i am covered with the from 70mm to 300mm (35mm Equiv) at a constant F2

That should see me through to the next 4/3rds Pro body........ hopefully

Chris

I won't be getting anything until i learn to use what i've got.

Well, maybe a flash..............
