Hello, looking to build/create a portfolio/gallery site of my photography and have been looking at some of the examples on here.

I have looked at several templates and sites like joomla/photobiz and all look good but just wanted something simple that i can adapt and was wonderig what you all use.

I dont reaally wanna start recoding anything so something offers a template than i can easily adapt to suit my needs.

So any advice would be great thanks

I use Clikpic. Its simple to use and does all I want for the moment. Uses templates but they are fairly limited. New ones do come along every so often but not that frequently. Have a look at my website, link in signature.

I started with the base option for £35 but now have the next package up which allows more photo's.

Worth a look...

Gallery2

Dreamweaver for me too... but I am struggling to work it out, so it might as well be a text editor for all the good it's doing.

Gallery2 is one of the best for a site purely about hosting images, some neat plugins too. But I think wordpress can be even better for content. It has a gallery module in it, is easy to template and should scale nicely.

Photium for me, although Jalbum does look really good.

Would agree with Chris about Wordpress. My old site was built on a highly tampered with pBase backend. Unfortunately, it was never ever patched and I was getting hacked to death. Binned the whole thing in June and because I wanted something quickly, I decided on Wordpress rather than starting from scratch. It's easy to configure, there's some cracking themes about and there's more than one gallery plugin to choose from as well.

Still haven't got round to creating my own galleries yet, but my son's under 11 football team have adopted me as their personal photographer. I needed to get some quick and easy galleries on there for the football photos so I used Jalbum for that. Really really easy to get going with and can be customised via readily available skins, or a bit of DIY once you know how it all works (I left mine in the default black Chameleon skin - It's simple and not too fussy).

Photoshelter

you edit plain text in an RTF editor ? ;]

If we are talking CMS than I use wordpress with NextGEN Gallery

wow. I have used wordpress blogging for a number of years but did not realise it had moved on so much. Would you say they have used a theme, how have they created it?

i dont think that site was built with Wordpress artona, i think the "Wordpress" response was to the OP.

the site you linked to looks like it was a custom build.

I use a few things for my web development.

For small websites
TextMate
Smultron

For large enterprise websites
Eclipse + FDT and Aptana plugins
Zend Studio
SVN

CMS'
Wordpress
Expression Engine / CodeIgniter
Indexhibit

If anyone wants to know what that stuff is, Google is your friend. I can't be arsed linking it all up.

Notepad, Dreamweaver, PHPed (NuSphere)... and any other resource available to me

Expression Engine on mine, don't know why, it's what the web developers recommended and it does all I want.
