Just had an email from Jamroll stating that they're closing they're web-hosting due tot he economic climate and I have till February 11 to find a new home for my site. It's never been anythng motr than something for me to dabble with, and as such isn't great but it would be a shame to lose it (especially as I've just renewed all my domain names).

I need somewhere with at least 200MB of space, PHP hosting and at least 2 MySql Databases with email. But with a tight budget, and being a beginner when it comes to programming, and web design I need to keep cost to an absolute minimum (Jamroll was free but never had any issues over the last 4 years).

Can anyone recommend any reasonable hosts?

Cheers
Dave

I use dataflame and have done for years.

Why do you need 2 MySQL databases, can't you roll them into one? (Add users, put a prefix infront of table names etc)

eukhost have had some good reviews, been looking at switching myself recently as my current host (gradwell) managed to fall over for 3 days recently. Everything seems to be back to normal again now but the lasting impression I got was that gradwell's structure was a house of cards - when one bit went down it took everything with it :(

I've only ever used 34sp.com who have been both reasonable in their pricing, and excellent in their customer service and support.

Highly recommended.

I use Hostgator for both my personal and my Forum/Gallery (2 seperate plans) Both are the "Hatchling" on this page $7.95 per/month http://www.hostgator.com/shared.shtml

You'll struggle to find a host that matches or betters these details, especially when their uptime is pretty much 100%, in four years I cannot remember a downtime at all. Feature packed and good support. I've recommend to others before that they use Hostgator, they in turn now also recommend to others too.

Steve...:)

(I'm not affiliated with HostGator in any way, shape or form).

What were you thinking of paying a year max?

As little as possible - Been on a free package for the last three years, but that's probably why they're going under. realistically, it was a hobby site that I developed ocer a year or so when work wasn't that busy. I don't sell anything, I don't really put many of my pictures on it or anything, I just dabble with php and CSS etc. when I have the time.
It's done me a favour really, as rather than just copy the whole thing over, I now have the reason to start all over again.

Everyone else,

Thanks for all the suggestions, if I can drag myself away from here for more than 10 minutes at a time, I'll be having a peek at all of them.

I'd recommend euk, we've got a couple of sites hosted with them... only had a couple of problems (minor stuff, ususally getting my IP blocked from the server when FTP'ing!) which they sorted instantly when I got onto them,

so a bit  from me

If you're just dabbling with PHP, MYSQL etc then why not install a web server on your computer? WAMP or XAMP should do you.

I had thought about that, and have a laptop sitting indoors that I re-built with Linux, and then chucked Apache, MySQL and PHP on. It works really well as a test server, but wouldn;t know where to start when it comes to setting up a partition as a nameserver, or mailserver - I can feel another "hobby" in the making here.

Back to the hosting, I've now sorted it (went with ukwebhostingsolutions after a bit of help from another member here ). Thanks to all who offered suggestions.

I use Wap on a system here, and it is very good as a dev server. One thing to watch out for: make sure your host has PHP to the same level

I had to move a clinet from a sever to one of mine, because his version of PHP was 3! and this wasnt a small host either
