I am starting to get serious about buying a 40D (the 1dMkIII is a long way off yet .... especially now they may be recalled !!!) and im now thinking along the lines of upgrading my lenses.

Im obviously not going to go all out and replace every lens i have with the L equivalent, but maybe one at a time.

So what was your first L Lens so i can have a look to see which one im going to spend my hard earned cash on.

By the way, i want it to replace my Sigma 17-70. I do love the lens, but i find it too "inbetween" i like things either a bit closer (70-300 does that) or a bit further away (Sigma 10-20 does that one)...... if you get what i mean.

Just been looking at the 24-105, would fill a nice gap that lens. And for "only" £556.

24-105 and I m lovin' it............ :p:p:p

My first L was the 70-200 f4L, closely followed by the 17-40 f4L and recently I got the 300 f4L.

It will be the CANON EF 70-200mm F4.0L USM :D I'll hopefully have it in my grubby hands the first week of December! :woot:

Well I started with a 17-40, waited a whole day before snagging a bargain used 70-200 f4. Then came the 300 f4 and the 24-105.

Still have room for a couple of sigmas too, although I only ever use one.

No wonder the case is so heavy.:lol:

Anyone got the 400 f 5.6?

I'm considering a longer prime.......but cost is most certainly a deciding factor at the moment

Doug Darter had one. I was after one but a 300 f4L came up at the right price, off doug as well. He owned both.

First was the 17-40 F4.

Recently acquired the 70-200 F2.8.

Wouldnt mind the 24-70 F2.8 as my walk around, but after that thats it ... Im done buying lenses.
I am honest!
Really there'll be no more ... well there'll be no more money left to spend on them thats for sure!

InaGlo, take a number........ :lol::lol::lol:

The 100-400L was my first piece of L glass. Not cheap, but a really useful zoom range and quality images.

is that to keep the 17-40 company on the shelf then..

my first was the 24-70 f2.8 L . One of the best L zooms Canon make, and has been followed by a whole shed load of others to find sanctuary in my kit bags.

Yup, the dog has had a nibble on one of the dining table legs, so I thought a long'ish' prime would make a perfect replacement.

70-200 f2.8 IS ... and I love it

same here, starting to love the 100-400mm now..

It was Jan getting interested and not being able to share the 100-400L which was the excuse for buying the 70-200 2.8L, which hopefully just might be my last bit of L glass as I'm very happy with my choice of lenses and don't feel there's anything else I need. At the moment anyway. ;)

Yep, I've got one.....

Yep, this is the one:razz::razz:

First L was the EF35-350 f/3.5-5.6L......can double as a baseball bat, truncheon, sink plunger...very multi-functional, totally indestructable and I'd never get rid of it.

70-200 F4 IS

To and fro-ed as to whether to splash out the extra for the IS, but I`m so glad I did.

135mm f2 for me sharp as a tack and really really fast af

My first was the "kit lens" with the 5d - the 24-105. Still spends a lot of time on the camera and it started me on the slippery slope of L additction

Is this where i should add some juvenile and off-topic slanging combined with promotion of another brand?

Mine was the 24-105mm IS 'L', this virtually lives on my camera, although its the bees nees, if I had my time again I give the 24-70mm some serious thought as its f2.8 which is mighty handy!! :)

So all you peeps who have the 24-105 is that used on a 5D or do you have crop sensors?

For me it started on my 350d and now has moved home to my 30d, but goes back every so often, as not to make the 350d lonely
crop sensors all the way

70-200 F4 L, i want the 100-400 L next.

These two canon lenses are both the same sort of price........... which is best?

Canon 70-300 IS f4-5.6

Canon 70-200 F4 L (non IS)

I can see both have advantages and disadvantages over each other but cant see a winner!

You get the extra focal length with the 70-300 and the IS but is that lot cancelled out by the constant F4 and the L of the 70-200?

When I bought my 24-105 is was for my 30D (crop sensor). I later bought a 5D and I have to say the difference with that lens on a ff body is huge! You can't believe it's the same lens.

I did a comparison a while ago with the 24-105 on both bodies.

But back to the OP's question - my first L glass was the 100-400 and I absolutely love it
