What was your First ever camera?

I started out about 18 years ago with a noddy 35mm film compact which came from a Texaco sales promotion. When it died on me, this was then replaced by another, slightly less noddy 35mm film compact.

About seven or eight years ago, I decided to go digital and bought a 2mp Canon compact. A few years later, this was replaced by a 7mp Canon A710 compact.

A year ago, having paid off my mortgage, with a bit of spare cash, I decided to take my photography rather more seriously and buy a proper camera. Since I'd been impressed by how well engineered the Canons were, I bought my current EOS 450D.

Assuming my career doesn't get credit-crunched (I work for a manufacturing company), I'm hoping to replace the 450D with either a 7D or a 5D, in a couple of years or so.

First camera was a Kodak 110 Instamatic when I was about 6.

My first decent camera was a Voightlander Vito B I swiped from my old man - he'd bought it second had from a press photographer back in the 1950s. I still have it, loaded a film in it for the first time in ~20 years recently, and last week was taking some photos around Aldgate while wondering about black & white photography, learning how to develop my own films, medium format cameras, and coming back down to reality.

First SLR was a Zenith (no model number), where the mirror was raised as you wound the film on. I used this as a 1st year student before moving on to a Zenith 11 I was given, then a Rikoh KR/35 Super, which I kept for ~15 years.

First SLR I bought new was a Pentax MZ7 (ergonomically still the best camera I've ever held).

First digital SLR - Nikon D70.

My parents bought me a camera kit for Christmas 1959.It consisted of a Kodak box camera with a case, flash attachment, some bulbs and a roll of 620 B/W film. Those 620 negatives were really big.I used it up until the 1970s.In 1971 I used it with colour film for the first time while on holiday in Benidorm.
I still have it and will post a picture when I work out how.

Olympus trip which was stolen the day I flew to Africa with the army, so it was hastily replaced with a £12 miranda (if memory serves me right?) compact from Dixons. After a few months out there, I decided that I wanted a 'proper' camera. So, upon my return, I went out and bought an EOS1000F. This started the line of: 5, 3 (still got it and WON'T let her go), 1n, 300D, 350D, 30D (Still have), 40D(still have) and 1Ds classic (just got).
Alongside these, my compacts have been an Olympus Mju2 (sharp as a tack, passed on to my niece) Coolpix something-or-other (God knows what happened to it) and a G9 (goes everywhere with me)
I've also dabbled with a Seagull TLR and occasionally have a mess around with a Kiev rangefinder.

And here i am now with my D300

My Grandad bought me an Olympus Trip and a Zenit 12 with 28mm and 35mm lenses when I was around 8 or 9. I still have the Zenit but gave the Olympus to my brother when my Grandad gave me his Canon AE-1.

My first was a Kodak Instamatic 33 which took 126 cartridges. It would often jam up in the summer due to the plastic body expanding... A real nuisance.
I also got to use my dad's Agfa Sillette from time to time... That was back in the early 70s.

My first SLR was a Zenit E I bought for a fiver, which leaked light, so my photos had a strange light patch at the top edge. I shot many rolls with that until I replaced it with a Jenaflex BC1 - I'm a sucker for crap cameras! :bonk:

I now shoot with a Nikon D3 and D70s but I've reverted back to film and enjoy using a little Minox GT ... Great little camera!

my first camera was a rollei 35 - a little 35mm compact with a lovely lens. I was about 10, mainly cause my mum liked the old stuff and would have never got me something shiny and silver. a few years later my SLR was a contax 139 qrtz with carl zeis 50mm. nxt and Final film slr was a fabulous Nikon F5. Then wanted digi and got a D50. First digi compact was a coolpix s2. Since then I've had a multitude of DSLRs/Hybrids, sell one to fund the nxt. Never gone back to compact, just use my Nokia or my grans sony P150.

Ca. mid-80s, my first camera was in a 'spy kit', but not like SLRists. It was a little black briefcase based on 'The Professionals', so you could pretend to be a CI5 operative :) I don't remember the film it took, but it was colour!

After this, I inherited my Dad's Kodak. I don't recall the model number, but it was a film camera which had a fold out 'handle' that you could use, a very nice automatic for its time :)

Move forward maaaaaaaaany years, and since 1999 it has been thus:

Kodak DX3600
Fuji Finepix F450
Canon 400D
Canon 5D Mk2

A nice learning evolution I like to think :)

I honestly cannot remember my first cameras but they would have been something like an Instamatic 110 and I would have progressed to a 126 type at some point...

My first 'proper' camera was this one, only remembered because I still have it... :D

Yashica Minister III...

My other stuff is in the Gallery if you're really interested... :suspect:
