What UV filter on a Canon 70-300mm IS lens?

Cant really spend all that much but I assum its got a 58mm attachment but what should I look for, anything good around £30?

I use a mixture of Hoya Pro 1s and B+W bought from hvstar.com.

I used to be a Hoya Pro1 D user but now switched to B+W MRC filters. The latter is easy to clean and based on what I've read, they are better if not the best filters.

I can see a load of hoya ones on ebay, but they seem cheap, less than £20 is that right?

depends which ones they are? there are green boxed ones and black boxed ones, watch out for fakes to

the B+W are Black and White filters from what i can gather

B + W filters are a German company, they are mucho expensive but can be brought very cheaply from ebay, I got them on all my lenses and they are superb. They are supposed to be pretty much the best you can get.

Check them out on ebay.

thanks :)

Any clue on how to spot fakes?

Could buy them off hvstar as I said above. They are originals and only a tiny bit more than ebay and also do packages with a lenspen, a Tiffen filter case and a lenscloth at the moment. I got a 77mm one with all the above for just under 50 quid delivered.

thanks :)

Any clue on how to spot fakes?

Buy from a reputable seller like the one I linked or as above, hvstar.
There was a talk about hvstar selling fake but hvstar clarified it and said they only sell original. Can't remember which forum though sorry.

I think you are referring to this strobemonkey and this.

I always go for the Hoya filters... always worked for me :)
