I am new to SLR photography as a hobby so please bear with me.

In my work I manufacture among other timber products a lot of staircases.

I have always found it difficult to get good photographs of these as most hallways never allow me to get far enough away to capture decent images of the whole staircase on a compact digital.

I have borrowed a Canon 400D and would be interested in anyones suggestions as to what lens I would need to achieve the required results.

A wide angle of some sort to let you get the subject matter in. Maybe the Sigma 10-20 :shrug:

I would imagine the best place to start with a lens would be the 18-55 kit lens. That would give you an indication as to where you need to go from there. It may be that that focal length is fine, or you may find you need something wider.

If that is the case then you would be needing an ultra wide angle such as the Canon 10-22 or Sigma 10-20. These will cost you significantly more than a kit lens.

If you are borrowing your mates 400D, then they may already have a kit lens on it. Have you tried this yet?

My friends kit does in fact have a 75-300 and a 18-55, so I shall be trying out the 18-55 tomorrow.

I would suggest the Tokina 11-16mm well renowned for being a good interior lens, its one im seriously tempted to buy for landscape work.

Yes can def recomend the Sigma 10-20mm lens, should give you that bit extra you need to be able to get the shot :thumbs:
