hi
im thinkingof getting a Manfrotto 393 Long Lens monopod Bracket but what would be good tripod to sit it on???

If your looking for Manfrotto, red snapper make very simular products, very good quaility but a lot cheaper and they used to offer a 10|% discount for TP members (not sure if they still do but would guess so). Worth looking them up.

Another recommendation for redsnapper

I got the RedSnapper RS-283 Tripod and RSH-12 Ball Head plus the 10% discount for TP members.

Great setup so far, no complaints

hi
thanks for that
any chance of narrowing it down to model numbers

If you'll narrow it down to a price.

Is size and weight important? What are you planning to put on it? Shooting what? What type of head do you prefer?

Anything from £50 to over £500. Head extra.

hi
yes read some reports on this tripod sounds good but will a MANFROTTO MN393 HEAVY TELE LENS SUPPORT fit on it ?

would be using 120-300mm f2.8 with converters for wildlife, military and sport photography

No chance! That lens is a monster, and you've got TCs  RedSnapper is a cheap consumer tripod - great for £50 but wobbly with any weight on it (has weak leg and platform joints).

I would suggest this Benro C-497 or a similar spec Gitzo, which will cost a lot more http://cgi.ebay.com/BENRO-C-497-M8-...tem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3efd8a6bf5 Recommended supplier

hi
thank you for that what about SLIK Professional IIE Tripod Legs 3329 ????

Getting there, by the looks, but never tried one.

I would go for something seriously strong with that lens, without a centre column, and carbon helps with the weight.

Is your budget a secret?

There are a few folks on here with that Sigma. Maybe a post along the lines of 'Tripod for Sigma 120-300 2.8' would flush them out.

The lens weighs 2.6kg, so I would suggest a Gitzo 3531 or 3541 (depending how many leg sections you prefer), they do several versions, depends how tall you are which would be best.

I would put a Jobu Blackwidow LW Mk2 on top of it, really good relatively lightweight gimbal head.

Thing is the two together are going to cost £700 - £750

I used the Sigma 120-300 for the past few years and only had the Redsnapper to sit it on. It will take the weight easily and do the job to an acceptable level however i recently changed mine for a Gitzo 5541 and would say that its like night and day. I noticed right away that the vibrations which were showing on the Redsnapper had gone completely. If your serious about photography and want to do it to a higher level then make sure you get something good whether it be the Redsnapper or another.
