What makes a great blog?

Do you write about your best work only and showcase how it was created? Or do you also talk about what didn't go so well?

How much technical detail do people want to know and how much is a personal story of planning the image?

Finally, would you write it differently for portraits vs landscape images?

The usual answer is it depends!

Opinions on news etc.
How you got your photos
Photoshop before and after and what you did
Your inspiration

At the end of the day it is your blog, what do you want to achieve? What do you want to write about!

The questions I'd ask of you are why are you writing a blog? What do you intend to get out if it? Do it because you feel you have something to say, and to offer to others, otherwise you'll lose interest after the initial flurry of enthusiasm in the first month. Posting endless '12 ways to better landscape/portrait/timelapse/fill in the blank' will probably get you traffic, but maybe isn't sustainable or satisfying to you.

Personally I've been blogging for about 6 years and hope to make my 400th post before the end of the year - I'm prolific, if not particularly frequent. I write about my own photos, why I made them, where they are, what mistakes I made, other peoples photos (historical), anything which interests me around the general theme of my websites ( oh and the occasional bits on creativity). I look on the blog as a complement to my other sites.
