Having been in photograpghy for only just over 6 months i tend to only take photos of aircraft as this is what i brought my Canon 350D for and is my hobby but now taking a big interest in other photo work and after seeing peoples results on here i wanted to know what subject would i be best to start with as in taking photos.

Thanks
Chris

Anything and everything - then you get an idea of what you're good at or enjoy the most and also what you could improve on. That's what I do, still only learning myself, but keep snapping and experimenting and sometimes it all comes together

And just enjoy it - that's what a hobby's for :D Good Luck and look forward to seeing the results :)

Absolutely ANYTHING that takes your fancy tbh! Remember the basic rules of compostition [rules of thirds etc] to begin with, and shoot away at whatever you like, there are no hard and fast rules about what is 'good to begin with'

Perhaps start with something local, a park or the city/town centre, or maybe a tourist attraction or local event like football, motor racing or country show...anything!

Best advice - have fun doing it. :D

Take pictures of everything. It's the only way you'll find out what you'll like. Think of what pleases you asthetically, or alternatively consider what it is you talk about to friends or family when you're not actually doing it. Could be a candidate subject.

Why not have a go at anything and see what you end up doing most of.

Nobody can tell you what to shoot Chris.

Have a look at what others are doing for inspiration and decide what YOU would like to try next. Personally if I see something which inspires me, I have a look for a tutorial to point me in the right direction and then I give it a bash.
You might find that you are restricted by your equipment but there is always something new to try.
The nice thing about this forum is that if you have a bash at something and post the results here, there are always talented and knowledgeable people who will give you feedback without belittling you. Go on, just give it a go.

Chris,

the most important points have already been made by the other posters.

If you are still struggling, I found the following book very useful when looking for inspiration on what to try during a course, the book is only around £10.

"Photo Idea Index: Explore New Ways to Capture and Create Exceptional Images with Digital Cameras and Software (Index) (Vinyl Bound)"

Thanks for all the replies. U have all given me the push now to get out and photograph anything i see LOL :)

Also might buy that book as well to give me idea's

Just thought i would share a few of my first pics taken with my 350D this year.

I know its only of aircraft but thought i would show and or so some of my first firework photos

Another thing you could do without moving from exactly where you are sitting right now - click on the galleries link above and just randomly browse around the member and competition galleries, you will find more inspiration than you shake a stick at.

not bad pics either btw ;)

One thing you could do if you don't know what you want to take pictures of, just choose a idea or theme and walk around finding things that relate to that and picture them. For example in A level photography (which i am doing) is to look for thing that form letters and photograph them until you have the whole alphabet.
