Yes
....so I'm sat here at work and an email comes through from the wife saying that 'we need' to go away for the weekend, apparently she wants to go to Morecambe 'because we've never been before'.

So, as I'm not really wanting to go, I need some reasons for going if you know what I mean. Do any of you know what the photography opportunities are like over there - is there much to take shots of? I really need some inspiration here to want to go this weekend to be honest. :|

If the weather is good, should be okay to get some shots across the bay towards the south lakes.

Ta,

Adam.

I have heard it is a bit dull and has a very high population of grey haired folk.

If it's foggy you can shoot the harbour. Then there is the Eric Morecambe statue, but I think the art deco hotel is still under wraps. I guess if your very arty you may do something with the big polo mint tower if it's still there.

i'd try and divert her to go somewhere else if i where you, its not exactly the nicest place around.

....from the wife saying that 'we need' to go away for the weekend,

If my wife said that to me the last thing on my mind would be the camera. :naughty: :naughty:

But it's not going to happen so I can't help you.

You could always use it as an opportunity to get some candids of people being glum. (Isn't that a super word?)

Hmmmm, Morecambe

Not wanting to offend anyone to but to be honest there are many much nicer places closeby - how about the Lake District, maybe pop down here to North Wales - Llandudno perhaps or Anglesey for fantastic beaches

Just my opinion anyway - sure you'll find something to capture if you make the trip

Hi there.

I came across this thread on my Google alerts for Morecambe and couldn't let the opportunity pass without letting you know what's going on here this weekend.

From what I've read and seen, I get the impression you're more into landscapes etc, but there might be something here to interest you.

This weekend is the annual Heritage Gala with various events happening along the promenade including the Bradford to Morecambe Historic Vehicle Rally, Sand Sculpture by Andrew Baynes, performances from the Pierotters, The Great Artizani and David Straitjacket.

On Sunday there is also a solo display of both a Spitfire and Dakota with a fireworks display to end the weekend at the Stone Jetty at around 8.30pm. More details can be found here http://www.lancaster.gov.uk/news/News.asp?id=SX9452-A780BC05

If you're after a quieter afternoon, there is also the local brass band (Morecambe Band) playing in Happy Mount Park from 2.30pm.

I know I sound like I work for the tourist department, but I'm just a Sandgrown'un (Morecambe born and bred) who's proud of his town. Ok, there are areas that are rundown etc, but don't you get that with most places?

Anyway, hope this has been of some help.

Paul

Off Topic: You're not paulw from adrenaline by any chance are you? Welcome to the forum anyway :)

Is the old art deco hotel still on the sea front. It was going to be knocked down but I am sure it keeps being saved then the backers pull out. Its opposite the markets and depending on the light you should be able to get a corker of a sunset with the hotel as a frame. Good hunting.

dod - no, sorry. Must be a popular name then!

tiler65 - yes the hotel is still there. Covered with scaffolding, but still there! Urban Splash are in the middle of renovating it and are going to run it as a hotel again. And yes, the sunsets can be amazing.

Every now and again I keep reminding myself of how lucky I am to live on the doorstep of that amazing view!
