As I build my equipment up, one of the subjects I want to get into is motorsport photography and I have the kit lens 70-300 canon but am gonna need a good quality prime lens of similar.. 300mm but no way can afford the prices charged.. :shake:

any idea's as I don't yet have enough posts to access the sales bit of the forum.. don't wanna just post anything just to get my numbers up
 
Could you not go down the route of a 200mm lens with a 1.4 converter on it?

There are some pictures on the forum using this type of setup and they are very sharp indeed. I'll try and link if I can find them.
 
What's your budget?

Prices in the classifieds aren't massively different to second hand prices on ebay.
 
if you can stretch to it a s/hand 300mm f4 would be a good start and it can take a 1.4tc well with little loss of IQ.
 
erm... don't really want to use a tele converter for loss of light and quality after spending so much on a decent lens to begin with.. and I think my budget realistically has to be £800 max really, can't justify my use for a £1000+ lens especially on a Canon 550D
 
A 300mm f4L IS USM is available for under £850 from Panamoz, if you don't mind imports, and you pay by bank transfer. I can highly recommend them for their service and they are also very good with warranty claims.

Hi Ian

You'd be able to pick up a Canon 300 F4IS 2nd hand for your budget.

You can look at various other sites or join in TP, and you should be able to access the classifieds here by the time the Motorsport season kicks off again...

I've one and it's a great lens, also works well with a 1.4TC
