What to do with my Netbook

I need some advice with what to do with my netbook, I have an Acer 1 netbook, about 2 years old, 250gb hd, 2gb ram, running Windows Vista.

We have not used it for a while as it has become very slow running and don't know what to do with it. Its a nice little netbook so what are my options?

I was thinking about getting a Windows 8 upgrade for it, but I think I need to do a few other things to get it at least running properly before I do this, any help much appreciated.

Please bear with me on this as I have not had to do it before so may ask further questions

Wndows 7 will be slightly faster, a clean install will also get rid of whatever is slowing it down. Once you have windows 7 installed, install Microsoft security essentials as your av and go from there.

What is the resolution of the screen, I've no idea if there is a minimum resolution for Windows 8, I know there is for the split screen in metro.

Windows 8 is made to work on almost all older systems. I know someone running it on a desktop that's about seven years old. It automatically downloads and installs motherboard drivers without you noticing. Been using Windows 8 now for nearly a week and it's seamless. Obviously the new hardware I have helps but it's actually, for once, a very, very good OS by Microsoft!

If you're not using it, eBay/Gumtree/sell it for whatever you can get for it.

Many thanks for coming back to me, I think the screen resolution is 1366x768, I will check the minimum resolution for 8.

I am not sure how I can do clean install as it didn't come with any discs or anything, how would I go about it?

I don't really want to sell it as the missus wants it for surfing, will look into windows 8 and see what I can do
