Getting totally fed up of US news on the BBC all the time who cares what happens in Mississippi apart from people who live there….get a grip BBC !

The BBC serves 65 million (or so) British citizens, plus many more worldwide. A big part of their remit is to inform the viewers what is happening outside the British Isles.

The poor boogers who have to select subject matter cannot win, because, whatever they show, some individuals will feel that their interests are paramount and the other umpty millions just don't matter. It's a hard life for those involved in gathering news material, only to be told that Mrs Trellis in North Wales doesn't want to see the footage, which they waited hours to obtain...

Not just the bbc news, sky can be the same? You may need to the local news show or local radio?

I get what Steve means though, the editing of the news on certain channels is diabolical. Whoever decided that Princess Kate being in remission is more important than a bunch of news about LA wildfires, peace in Gaza and big crime stories here, needs a bit of a re-set. Certain of these stories are higher priority for world news than UK news, but it depends on target audience. Royal news is frankly anathema to a large proportion of the UK population, but probably great for BBC World Service selling the UK as a tourist trap.
It's true though that one man's meat is another's poison I guess

I no longer watch the news on BBC, I get a less bisaed, more accurite version from Al Jazeera..... As for the BBC providing a service to the world, well why are we paying for that? If it was just me at home, I'd bin the licence.

There will always be something that someone doesn't want to see or feels is given excessive prominence - I'd move sport to a sports news channel and stop any mention of reality(is that an oxymoron?) shows.

I must have another look at Al Jareera as I found it interesting and a different view.

Do hope Mrs Trellis is well :)

BBC is where the truth goes to die, so I stopped paying my licence almost 10 years ago, don't miss broadcast TV at all.

I can't understand how 1 story can command so much time. If you watch the news on iplayer, you can watch for almost an hour and it's the same story showing their favourite video clips over and over. I want to see what is going on in a wider sense, with different news worthy stories featured.

You could always get ad free itv for £6 a month...... imagine that, emmerdale without any adverts.
:D

For £72 per year, I'll channel hop to avoid annoying ads!

In all honesty I think the bbc produce the best dramas and documentaries anywhere.

I paid £50 or so for a Freeview recorder, about ten years ago...

...watch when I like and zap through the adverts. :naughty:

The BBC are IMO a disgrace or at least large parts of it seem to be. The latest debacle with the murderer and his "song" is really just unbelievably disguising and appalling but no real surprise as is the fact that they don't seem to want to apologise to the relatives of the victim.

The only thing I watch on terrestrial TV is the odd football match which isn't in Virgin.
