Sorry if this has been asked before, i am new to studio work and am unsure what device i need to connect the kit to my camera.

I have a sony a37 and sony a77
Studio kit elinchorm fx400 ( seller has lost the ir trigger)

What do i need to make the two work and what settings will i need to change on the cameras?

You could buy another IR trigger, but cheaper and probably easier is something like a Yongnuo RF602 radio trigger set.

Make sure it comes with the cable to plug into the head, then set the other head/s to slave and they will fire in sync.

Welcome to TP :)

Do bear in mind that the Sony Alpha range has the different hot shoe mount to standard ones, so will require an adaptor or a trigger that's designed to work with Sony or Minolta cameras.

Thanks i shall have a little look in to one of them, will i need to change any setting on the camera as it wants to pop the flash up all the time

If 'that' is till happening (ie the flash still popping up), could I gently suggest that you've got an awful lot more to learn about how to use your camera before confusing yourself with off camera lighting?

At the very least you need to get out of Auto mode and learn how Aperture Priority and/or Manual modes work! :)

I know how to use the camera and i am not in auto mode, it only happens on the a37 every time i fire in slightly darked areas, in both a/s/p/m modes. If i use it in auto the camera fires correctly and only uses the flash when it needs to.

Clearly not, otherwise you wouldn't have to consult page 207 of your camera's user manual followed by pages 41, 123 and 124.

I have taken a look at those pages you have refferd to and it still pops up every time when in non auto,
so i went down to jessops and they had the same problem so they rang sony while we was there and ran through some simple tests and compared it to another a37 and guess what there is a fault with the camera. So thank you for taking the time to make me sound stupid and giving me a warm welcome to this forum.

I would like to thank every one else for all your help with this matter :)

I wasn't tying to belittle you in my first post. You just took it that way.

Elsewhere you mentioned that you've been photographing for just 6 months. I was trying to point out that getting to grips with your camera before adding artificial light is usually a good plan.

As for the rest... you looked at your manual, worked out the problem and got it sorted. I'd call that a result.

The real question is why you didn't do that before being prompted?

Photography is all about finding solutions to problems, rather than being told answers!

ok sorry for thinking you was belittleing me, thats the problem with reading thing when your in a bad mood lol

i had read the manuel before and checked again when you prompted to make duble sure i hadnt missed anything. i know i havent been in to cameras for long but i like to push my self to learn, i think i could have looked for and tryed every thing with the a37 to try and get over the problem but i would never solved it as there is a fault on it, i have to get it sent off now to get it repaired.

sorry again
