Hi guys, can u please tell me what strap would u choose to carry d7k with the 70-200 vr2? I found the black rapid quite interesting, but I`m a little bit concerned aboud the security of the srew that goes into the tripod mount. Is it gonna b secure? My combo weight will be around 2.4kg max.
The original strap from nikon is secure but the way I carry my camera( on my chest) with the strap pulling my neck is not very comfortable.
If u have any experience, please post them. Thanks for reading and for your answers ;)

I use the BR sport with my gripped D700 and either my 24-70, Sigma 120-400 (which is big!) or any other lens.
Its perfectly secure as long as you screw it in tight enough.

I also have several versions of the Optech strap, both sling and normal and its nowjhere near the BR for comfort and ease of use.

You will find that the Black Rapid will be the main strap that everyone will recommend for you.Not got one myself but heard nothing but good things about them.

The Black Rapid carries my D700/MB-D10 grip and 70-200 VR without issues, so the lighter D7000 isn't going to present it with any problems.....

thanks 4 the replies guys. I did go trough some reviews of the BR strap and the sniper strap. The revies are 99% positive, but Im still scared the trust that screw. It looks like the sniper strap has got a new screw !! Anyone has tried it?

I had to get a pair of pliers on my BR the other day as I couldnt undo the screw.... Its not going anywhere if you tighten it in the first place.

Another happy BR RS4 user here. I had similar concerns regarding the screw into the tripod thread, but I've spent hours waking with a 7D and a variety of lenses including a 70-200 F2.8 and it has not shown any signs of coming loose.

The only minor criticism I have is creasing of the strap material where the carabiner sits, but I believe they have since changed the material.

My thoughts are to use a pair of pliers to screw it on :)
What looks really interesting ( what I just found ) is the carryspeed CS-1. It comes cheaper, more secured and with a tripod plate. It has some really good reviews.

Why is it so difficult when choosing any photographic equipment?? :(

Never had a security problem with my BRs, but never needed to take the pliers to it either. If you do get one, lick the rubber washer before attaching the screw to the camera, seems to make a tighter fit.

It's not - just ask yourself, how quickly will the self-satisfied glow of saving a tenner buying a cheap strap vanish when you it fails and you drop £2500 worth of camera gear......;)

I've got a Black Rapid RS7 and used it all day at the RIAT recently. Carried my EOS450D and Siggy 120-400mm lens comfortably and would recommend, but it is a bit on the expensive side.

I use an RS-7 with my 40D and Sigma 150-500 - around 2.65kg in total. It's as secure as a very secure thing :)

Another vote for the BR....

No need for pliers, finger tight works a treat.

Never had a single issue with mine coming even loose...

7D with a 100-400 hanging of it without a problem...

Does the tripod plate fit any tripod? I was thinking about getting one of these myself but just want to make sure that it will fit on a tripod.

only with with Manfrotto RC2 quick release plates.

Another vote or black rapid. I haven't got an authentic strap just the clip and loops.... Don't try and do it cheaply, you will pay twice as much in the long run

I wouldn't say that at all - it just takes an extra 30 seconds or so to unscrew the fitting and screw the tripod head in place. I've never found it a problem to be honest.

I dont have a manfrotto tripod, and yes it is a hassle, but its not that much effort.
I could "modify" my Gitzo plate to fit the FastenR-T1, but I dont really want to start messing about with it.

3 legged thing have developed a Arca plate that will take a T1 but I don't think its for sale yet. Mind you all their stuff seems to be on permanent back order...

Optech Pro all day long for a single body/lens.

thank you all for your thoughts, advices! made up finally my mind today - ordered the BR RS7. Got an insurance policy too, just in case ;)

Don't think you'll regret it. I have the same with my D300s and Nikon 80-200 2.8.

No problems yet but do have insurance too (had it way before I even considered the strap)

Had no issues so far and that was since March so almost 6 months without incident :)

Good choice. As someone mentioned, dampening the rubber washer and a firm twist makes it nice and secure.

The 'Sun Sniper' for me, though all of the brands appear to be more or less the same me. :|

Ordered a BR-Sport today. Been looking at these for a while as an alternative to my Think Tank harness with Spider Pro holster. I rely so much on it, but its only really useful when needing to take more than the camera. The Sport will allow me to just take the camera plus attached lens (probably a 70-200) around for a general day out without looking like i'm always on the job in full harness XD

I'll try to remember to feed back about the Sport when it arrives. It should be a good experience, but never had an alternative strap system before. should be good though! :D

Got the Black Rapid over the weekend, and gave it a quick go this morning.
It's an extremely good strap. Its a little heavy on the shoulder with a 1DmkIV and a 70-200 f/2.8L IS II USM attached, but it feels much more secure than the supplied Canon neck strap.

I've also used the Nikon AH-4 Hand Strap (which is currently attached) and I use a Spider Pro in conjunction with a Think Tank Steroid belt and harness.

I use the harness for carrying a large amount of equipment without going up to a backpack or full equipment bag. It allows me to carry a lens, flash, business cards and camera without any stress. The AH-4 is only really useful when using a small lens, no larger than a 24-70 f/2.8L USM. The RS-Sport is useful for carrying a lens up to about the weight of a 70-200 f/2.8L IS USM, but can be attached comfortably to the lens mounting or the body mounting.

Overall the RS-Sport is a great product which makes carrying a camera a much simpler task. I don't have to worry about having a general day out with the camera with my fav lens and it being a major inconvenience. Definitely worth its slightly premium price tag.

got my rs7 today ;)

Crumpler Industry Disgrace for me :)

Just to add, I've been using the BR-7 with the D700/MB-D10 and 300mm f/2.8 this week without any problems and that weighs a fair bit more than your combo....
