Hi
Meatcandy89
No sorry thats not one of mine. I have a contract with a team that arranges events in the SE

I sometimes shoot as many of the opposition noting boot color, hair, etc for reference when I download.

just before first half kicks off, photo the backs of one team top to toe, then you have boot colours, number, tape/straping, hair, tatoos, then second half do the other team.

Was mean to do
ITM Cup final Canterbury V Auckland and the
Womens National rugby Final this weekend,
but ended up getting Chicken pox.

Word of advice if you havent a clue who is who, when shooting the action immediatly shoot the players back with number on and refer to the team sheet for identity.

DO NOT ever try to wing it and guess, if you dont know who the player is then DO NOT guess as you will come a cropper, best to just caption like "Thatto Heath players close in to shut down a Leigh Miners attack" or better still, send a different photo in with an accurate caption, when saving and sending into papers save the photo as "Darren Woods 1st try"

Do you have the necessary emails to send into
That's exactly what I do, its never let me down.

worked a treat thanks, did a bit of machinegunning at the beginning to get backs with numbers etc, before kickoff at halftime and then at the end when players were all shaking hands etc. also had a little notepad wrote down a few details. took a while to caption all the shots in the end but only a few gave me any trouble.

Glad you had a good session, Tom. Bet you're glad its over!
I don't subscribe to Premier Sports (I think that evolved out of Setanta Sports channel) but I did watch a bit in the bar after. I was so cold! I think I got a chill, despite wearing so many layers. Been away for the weekend, now going to look at the pics.

yeah glad its done and dusted, its a long old day saturdays.

1:30 pitchside, till bout 3:40, sling kit in car, straight to 8 hours dayjob in manchester, finished at 00:30 sunday, straight home to process pics finished at 4:30 (would have been 5:30 but clocks went back) so a good 16 hour shift :P but worth it in the end!

I cant face processing the whole batch for my website, that can wait untill tomorrow. When i get in from work tonight its definately kick back onto the sofa and an iced beer with the missus.

Ahh wasnt sure what chanel it was on carol. Hope you got some keepers! I think i got a free weekend next weekend, as im not traveling to hull for the quarters.

I was originally doing it on the sunday gary and i got in contact with the guys who do the media coverage to attend saturday (thought i'd be able to get some cracking shots!). but ive had to change days to the saturday (taking part) now and i wont be able to move on the sunday let alone crouch down and take pictures and stuff. (ive made sure g/f is off to wait on me :) )

Seb could you send my g/f a copy of the speach!

Proper looking forward to it now!

Good luck, Tom. I just hope Dartford give Southport a pasting ...

Kendo.

40th Anniversary Mumeishi 3s... In a dark, orangey room... with very amateur kit.

Ah well, there'll be beer afterwards! :D

Hope this thread isn't just for the pro's. :-/

I did two football matches yesterday.

1st was a grassroots match for under 10's, which seemed quite hard work as the action seemed to be away to the other and more cuttered as usual.

2nd match was a seniors match which kicked off at 2pm. It started off ok as it was sunny, but by the second half the sun was dipping low and it started to rain. Using the usual Nikon 70-300 4.5-5.6. I had to throw the ISO way up. I haven't had much chance to check yet, but this was the first time I've used the ISO so high. How I wish I had 2.8 :(

I googled that, saw some video, gee whiz!

How did you get on?

It was a great day, but photographically speaking, not fantastic. I got a few shots for Facebook and my fellow Kendoka on there, but at first pass there's not really anything I'd want to show off... but I'll keep looking.

I've always struggled with the 35 1.8, to the degree I'm starting to hate it (I know it's user error rather than the lens itself, but the result is the same).

With a subject that fills the frame it's fine, and it is lovely and sharp, but I struggle to hit focus with it with anything further away. I was missing to such a degree that I ended up setting auto area focus by way of an experiment, and my hit rate more than doubled, so for my club's matches that's what I used (manual, with auto area focus... I ask yer!).

I got the pics I wanted though I guess... Mumeishi is a team competition where 1 member of each team of 3 has to be yudansha, which is great as it ensures that rookies get a taste of competition. I remember the thrill of seeing the first picture of me in armour, on court facing someone, and at least I got snaps (and they really are snaps) of our newer guys on court, and I hope they motivate them in the same way those early pics did me.

From a lighting perspective this is the worst competition by far (as can be seen from the juniors clip you posted), so it's just a case of practice, practice, practice elsewhere. The advice from Tony and yourself was bang on the money though. I shot mostly on the edge of the Shiai-jo, on my knees, and from a composition and angle point of view I was really happy with what that gave me. Many thanks!

Onwards and upwards!:)
