Where in Chorley are you on Sat Tony? I live in Chorley and have nothing on - I only shoot kids football tournaments so would be good to see how grown ups get shot if you are up for it (PM me if you are)?

am doing chorley v fylde for the local paper.. theres no accreditation system but you need to let the club know in advance if you want to shoot it.. they dont usualy have any problems.. give it a go :)

Friday and Saturday is The Showcase down at Cheltenham Racecourse. Itching for some horse racing again!

Sunday is the Croydon 10k run.

saturdays last game of conference rugby league for thatto heath.

Cheers Tony, I'll give them a call. My local photography club recently did a shoot with them for a local council grass roots sport project so I do have some contacts there. Will give you a shout if I make it.

Chorley appears to have a new sport of Police Tazering blind people that you could photograph

Its Chorley v Frickley ...the paper told me wrong... I always check what the paper tell me.. especialy location and time..

yeagh.. best not take a white monopod in case I get tazered ....erk

Goin' to Forest Green Rovers. That sounds like a fun place - no red meat, cow poo fertilizing the pitch ... perhaps the goalie will get a pat on the back ...

Mr Coyle, did you make an appearance at Thatto today? Saw someone with a shiny 400mm who dissapeared as quickly as they appeared before i got chance to say hi.

absolute belting game, best of season, both teams had everything to play for. cant wait to get shots in LR!

Strong aroma of cow poo .. Fans chanting "pie n mash, pie n mash, pie n mash" :D replay on Tuesday

This weekend we are shooting the first mucky race of the season. A bit like iron man but more mud lots more mud.

Port Vale if you get through Carol.

A loss for Dartford at Tuesday's replay. I couldn't go as I had another commitment - my view is they should've won last Sat. Still, FGR are mostly a professional team, and they can enjoy Port Vale. Last time we played PV we narrowly lost. I think this season is a tough one for the players, probably the FA matches would've stretched them too far.

We have a match on Friday, not Saturday, as its televised. Can I get on TV? who knows LOL:naughty:

Still the boys have done well so far this season, I know its still early days yet but lets hope they can keep it up.

Reading v Fulham for me, followed by Aussie Rules next weekend (two AFL teams coming over for an exhibition match at The Oval), then 4 weekends of England at Twickenham which should be super.

Good luck Tom, weather is forecast to be good anyway, a bit nippy but sunny.

cheers for the help lads, both in reccomending and everything thats come before :) you can have a cuppa out of my flask when i see you and might be able to stretch to a bag of chips :) Think he said maurice was abroad?
Daves asked for the shots to be captioned, how do you go about this? get a teamsheet and hope that you can spot the players numbers in other shots when their backs to you?
still cant wipe the smile off my face :)

What software you using Tom, i use Elements 10, not into photo mechanic as it does all i ever need it to

In Elements, open your image and select, File/File Info

You will be greeted with a screen like in the photo below, caption by entering in the "DESCRIPTION" section something which describes the photo, ie,
Darren Woods slides over in the corner for the third of his 4 tries to secure victory for Thatto Heath in their play off game against Leigh Miners

For your first game this is really the only info Dave has requested so in theory all thats needed, i would fill in al, the other fields along the lines like ive done.

You dont need to do this to every single photo, once completed for one photo you can export an XMP file with all the data on it, then import it into other photos, you can create an action to automatically add it to every single photo.

To create the XMP file, look at the screenshot, at the bottom theres a drop down bos which sats IMPORT, click and select Export, this will ask you to save the current data on your hard drive, save to your desktop, open up next photo, go to File/File info and select import, browse to the XMP file and import it, everything will then be saved to this photo, only thing you then need to alter is to write a new caption for this photo

Ive altered the contact details in mine for privacy, if working freelance then also add payment/bank details

Word of advice if you havent a clue who is who, when shooting the action immediatly shoot the players back with number on and refer to the team sheet for identity.

DO NOT ever try to wing it and guess, if you dont know who the player is then DO NOT guess as you will come a cropper, best to just caption like "Thatto Heath players close in to shut down a Leigh Miners attack" or better still, send a different photo in with an accurate caption, when saving and sending into papers save the photo as "Darren Woods 1st try"

Do you have the necessary emails to send into

One thing that I was given advice about if you don't know the players. When you have a break in play, get the team sheet and make a note of distinguishing features on a player.

ie if a player has a tattoo visible, or their hairstyle, or even how their tape (if any) is placed etc, you get the idea. Something that could help you identify.

Well make a note of that on the team sheet next to their number and then if you have a photo where you can't make out their number, you have something to refer to.

thanks for the help. i actually use lightroom but im sure its pretty similar gary, ill have a play tonite when i get in from work. i assume as he hasnt told me any diff to just send them to daves contact email? 6 from each side wiyh ball cropped to 7x5 ratio at about 600k filesize captioned.
kelack that sounds like a plan. seeing as im only on a 70-200 theres plenty of downtime :-P

Ideal 1st job for you, no deadline pressure as such. Get in club after game and ask the coaches the names of players in your chosen pics (not all just 10-12) if your unsure. Don't ask the players or the paper will be running with "mike oxlong gets tackled"etc

Ah right, didnt know he asked you to send direct to him, Dave'll put em up online tonight and the papers can login and take their pick.

Asterix is right, dont ask the players who is who, as much as they like to see their ugly mugs in the paper they like a luagh even better, that Mike Hunt has played for every single club in the country, do well and if theres no other already established guys kicking about you'll get more work, its exactly how i started

I sometimes shoot as many of the opposition noting boot color, hair, etc for reference when I download.

Well done, Tom!
Our match was televised, we won, too!
My behind the goal camera got a hit just seconds into the second half, ball over the goal knocked the camera off the magnetic mini tripod. I dashed to retrieve it, it seems unharmed, but because it was televised, I thought better of mucking about setting it up again. There were no more goals, though.
