Yes
Im taking a foreign workmate to Jacobs on Monday to buy a Canon 5D Mk2 and 24-105 kit and was wondering what sort of margin they allow for doing a deal with regards to closing the sale. Would it be reasonable to expect a decent card and filter or something similar to be thrown in as part of the deal? Would he be better off taking cash to get a better deal or just pay via chip and pin/c card and still have some leverage to haggle?
Thanks in advance, Phil

Are they the cheapest in the first place? It's all very well getting £50 of free stuff or discount, but if they cost £100 more in the first instance, all you've done is simply not lost as much...

Might be worth seeing if there's any online discount codes around at the moment as well?

He wants to go instore and buy it due to him travelling back to France on Xmas Eve and we dont get paid till the 20th. The post is a total disaster in Newcastle and he doesnt want to take the chance of not having it to travel home. I know
i can get one for around £100 less but its his choice. Worst thing is it was £2029 2 weeks ago in Jacobs but he didnt have the cash then. Its £200 more now.

God, I'd willingly pay more for a camera to not have to go into my local Jacobs store to get it. The. Most. Depressing. Place.

Ever.

Ive never been before but have been to Jessops quite abit. What s up with them?

The staff are useless and consult 'the computer' for everything and as much as they might have some lovely kit on the shelves the whole place comes across like a branch Argos or something, despite only being open a few months it just seems dull and tired and the whole place lacks any passion or enthusiasm.

There's a guy working there that used to work in the Jessops just up the road and I couldn't stand him when he worked there either though so that might be a common denominator.

Very aggressive nature and comes across like unless you're buying the most expensive version of whatever you're wanting you're not worthy of his time/effort.

I had never been much of a Jessops fan but now that guy works for Jacobs I've been using them more and the staff I've spoken to recently have all been dead friendly and just seem so much more into photography.

The time I really noticed the change at Jessops I was in looking at 24-70mm lenses and the girl that served me was a total Canon nut but we had some great banter and I ended up spending £1200 odd with them that day.

I would say each branch would be different. My local one is very good indeed. People in there are very good on advice etc

Look up the cheapest price on the web first and then ask them if they price match. They do have room to move on the price, they may need to make a phone call first though.
Went in the other day to look at a G12 for my dad, instore price was £438, went away and looked up the cheapest price on the web, £355 inc del, went back into store to see what they could do. Came back with £379. £60 discounted.
Good luck.

As with most chains, it comes down to individual branches; go in armed with prices off the net and willing to pay cash. Camera Price Buster is useful for best prices.

Also check out Jessops collect @ store options and go through a cashback site such as TopCashback or Quidco - at about 4% cashback, you should get about £70 cashback in a few months.

Well guys, we've been in and bought the camera and lens kit. Firstly i asked oin my friends behalf if there was any movement on the price? Not possible i was told. Next i asked.... So if theres no movement on the price would you be willing to do any sort of deal and maybe through in a memory card and filter? Sorry, we cant do any deals as the price is already rock bottom i was told. So you cant even through in a 2gb card?! No, sorry. My friend just wanted the camera and was happy to pay the £2249. When asked if he need any accessories i asked if he could maybe do a discount on a card. No, we cant. Phew!
CAnt complain about customer service as the guy was very helpfull but i am shocked baring in mind the amount he was spending.

If you're in Newcastle Upon Tyne get yourself out to Gosforth > http://www.newcastlecameras.com/gosforth/index.php

A great little camera shop and they'll certainly do you a deal if you haggle!
You know what mate, i was just asking a friend if there were any other camera shops in the toon. Is that the one next to The Brandling Arms? I have got photos developed there years ago but never thought of going recently....
Thanks for the heads up!:D
