Hi,

I need to design / print some Large Posters for my showroom.

I'm familiar with Photoshop, however not sure thats the correct software for this task?

Size Approx 150cm x 100cm Approx.

It would also be handy to design the Graphics/livery for some of our Used Cars and send to printers.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Matt

Photoshop will cope with an image size of 300,000px x 300,000px and a max file size of... loads! You're mainly limited by your ram really.

Your poster size on one layer is still under 1gb for a file size, so pretty small for photoshop. Once PSD files go over 2gb, then the larger file format of PSB files is best to use.
If you are working with large size, then be careful of stacking up loads of layers, your file will become unmanageable with small amounts of ram and you won't be able to save. Make sure you have enough swap disk space on your hard drive for use as a scratch drive too.

As for the graphics livery for cars, speak to the printers who print that type of work all the time. They'll give you the best advice, but yes you can still work in photoshop.

ETA: Useful doc here

Thanks for your advice.

I use a iMac 2.5 GHZ i5 with 16 GB Ram if that helps?

Sounds like you'll be fine for what you want to do.

I've worked with PSB files that were 16gb. It was a huge background image for use in an After Effects project that was 50,000px wide. We crossed our fingers everytime we wanted to save. We reached the limit of After Effects on that project before we got to the limit of Photoshop!
