I have been keeping to 8gb lexar pro 800x cards but i sometimes feel its not big enough with my 7d.

what do you all use eg 16gb, 32gb etc, or would you just buy another 8gb?

The pro's of a big card is less swapping, the con is that you have all your eggs in one basket and if the card goes tits up you lose everything.

Also, bigger cards tend to be newer and therefore faster and they're cheap enough not to worry about so I have a 16gb which I use for virtually everything and a couple of 8gb ones as back up. That said, it's a rare occasion that I need more than 8gb.
 
I have 1 x 32gb and 1 x 16gb Cf cards and whilst I don't think I've ever filled them, to me, it means I'm not worried about losing any impromptu moment at a wedding etc.

I do have a mate who swears by all his 8gb CF's though.
 
I have a pile of 8gb cards for my 5d mki and will be adding a coupe more shortly. I have two main drivers for this firstly the major reason and have a dslr is for trips abroad and while away I like to swap my card most days so if I my camera gets nicked I've only lost some electronics I can replace and max 1 day of pictures. The other reason is price when I first got the 5d mkii 8gb was the best priced card in a reasonable size.
 
I have a mixture of 8, 16, and one 32GB cards. It depends to a certain extent on your shooting habits. I shot 2,500 on Wednesday (most unusual for me) but was glad I had some large cards as opposed to a multitude of 8GB. If your cards are good quality where failure isn't a problem then large is OK, but it's personal choice.

I would be careful with the good quality cards not failing line some one will pop up in this thread any moment to tell you about the Sandisk card that went pop with 500 pics on it! Yes failure is unlikely but just imagine how gutted you'd be to loose three weeks worth of holiday shots in one card failure?
 
I used to have 32GB, but as soon as I got home after taking about 100 photographs, I would store them on the computer and remove them from the card, so there wasn't really much point me having 32GB because I never used it even over 2GB or something.

I can see why a professional who takes thousands of shots in a day would like a large card though.

But for me, I have a sandisk extreme 8gb, always done the job for me, I take many shots but because as soon as it goes on the computer I remove them from the card, has always been much more than enough.
 
You're much better off keeping all your eggs in one safe, secure, basket rather than trying to juggle several smaller baskets of eggs.

In over a dozen years I've never had a CF card fail. I have, however, lost one when I put it 'somewhere safe'. Now I use one card large enough for a full day. The only way I can lose it is if I lost the camera (and I'll notice that slipping out of my bag). I'll never accidentaly format a card - because I only format once a day, when the card first goes into the camera.

I have to say, this is my take on these things too.
 
thanks all, i too had this fear of things failing (touch wood never has) i couldn't bare to say to a bride that I don't have her pictures. however after every shoot i import them to the pc. I think i may give a 16gb a go and step out the comfort zone lol.
 
I only use 32GB cards now since buying the D800. I used to be same, worried about having too much on any one card, in case of a fail. But it's never happened. I had an error recently, but all images were intact after. I've been through tonnes of cards, of all sizes, and there's mo difference bar the space more smaller memory ones take up and all the switching in and out on the go. Larger, the better, and fast as you can afford.
