On Sunday I'm off to the Salford BG Triathlon World Cup, now I'd like to try some panning shots of the bicycle riders. I read on the forum to use 1/125 for motorbikes but I'm lost on shutter speed for bicycles.

Any suggestion so I get a sharp rider and bike but motion in the wheels.

Cheers Mark

1/60th ?

It's all down to how fast they are passing you. On a quick section 1/60th could be spot on but for a slow corner you might get as low as a 1/15th. It's gonna be a suck it and see affair really. Pressuming you're shooting digi with preview you'll know pretty quickly. If you're film or digi without preview (yup there are still some) then vary your shutter speed and try and cover a good range.

When using your 70-200 I'd only go down to 1/100th but with your 17-55mm you could get some nice shots from inside or outside of corners down to 1/15th.

I would also advice your use Shutter Pri and I find that with the white balance set to cloudy I get colours that stand out more vividly.
