Yes
So I've been inspired by a visit to Phillip Plissons gallery in St Malo and as I'm heading down to friends on the south coast this weekend I thought I'd try some seaside shots.

What shutter speed do you use to get those milky, misty wave effects?

General answer - a slow one. I'd start of at a couple of seconds and work your way down. You can get some great effects with 30 secs +.

Yep if you are shooting digital try a few different speeds and see which gives you the best results.

Thanks. Thought I'd try a few landscape/seascape shots but really didn't have a clue whether 1/8th, 1-2 secs or much longer.

Time for photo's will probably be minimal so a ballpark starting figure will be helpful.

Cheers

You will need long shutter speeds of at least a few seconds, if shooting in daylight you will need ND filters to get speeds that long

Blimey - how right you were about ND filters. I struggled to get anywhere below about 1/5th with a polarising filter on although 1/8th seemed nice as well.

And yes I know there's spots. A dog came out seconds before and shook himself all over me & camera :(
