Guys - Im now the proud owner of a 450D and need to get some kit together, what is a must for the 450D owner what should they not leave home without?
Infact what should they have at home when the get back other than their MRS and a nice cup of Coffee :)

The obvious one is never leave home with out your camera

Failing that you are good to go all the other stuff is a bonus, you have a camera, lens and memory card you are hot to rock....

Later on you can think about tripod additional lenses and other stuff but if you have the camera get out there and have some fun.

Regards

Nigel

Depends on what kind of photography you want to do.
The kit lens is not a bad general walkabout lens but if you go for walk in the woods and want to photograph a squirrel, the 55-250mm IS lens is perfect for this.
I managed to follow one up a tree and photographed it while it sat eating.

Depending on how 'snap happy' you are, I would also suggest a minimum of 2 x 4GB SD HC cards.
Don't buy the cheapest you can find, go for 'HC 6' cards as they will write to more quickly and help with buffering if you take continous shots.

A lot will depend on what you plan on doing.
For a general walkabout day the need is different to going on a 2 week holiday to somewhere that is going to be bright and sunny and full of potential landscape shots.

I generally take the bare minimum of walkabout kit that I take on holiday.
So this would include 2 lenses, hoods and CPL filters (depending on the weather), a couple of SC cards and a spare battery.

Obviously this is a longterm plan, after forking out for the 450D I wouldn't expect you rush out and rack up the credit card :)
Oh and as regard to getting home.
A card reader, a decent spec PC (you'll eventually get into processing your pics via software), a woman with patience as your demand for coffee increases as you process your pics :D

Not that I have the kit yet, and I'm a Nikon user.

My current buy list (in order of priority):
50mm f1.8 or the f1.4 if i can find a good price

Replace the kit lens with either (funds depending):
Nikon 24-85mm f/2.8-4.0 IF
Nikon 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IF

Really though, don't leave the house without the camera, a charged battery, and a lens attached. You don't need all this extra stuff. Just get out there and snap

Keep a memory card in your camera bag and never use it

It is there only for the day you leave your memory cards at home*

*been there, done that :bang:

a good camera bag for protection i have aw100 which gives easy access to camera and fits into overhead luggage compartments of planes with ease for hols

Interesting tip, since i've only got the one card at the moment i suppose i could try it (especially because i'd forget my head if it wasn't physically attached)

Remember to get dressed before stepping outside.:D:lol::)

spare card, bag, then maybe more glass (on a 450 the battery lasts almost forever)
a 50mm f1.8 (canon) is cheap and brill for low light
a telezoom could be useful for sport or wildlife or anything long (I have used them for landscapes before)
a flashgun 430exII or 580exII is essential for some things
depends what ya wanna do really

Get a BG-E5 battery grip! Simply a most-have item!

Also, buy a RC-1 remote control... They're only £9 on eBay! :)

There are some great ideas already put in for you. The easiest one I find is a camera bag and spare memory cards. All my kit fits in one bag (Except tripod)
pick up ya bag on your way out and jobs a good'n

If I could give you a different tip it would be.

A cotton bud and a soft fibre cloth for clearing anything off the lens.

Nothing worse than noticing some dust on your lens and it won't blow off.:thumbs:

Good Luck

As others have said basically, just a few goodies.

Spare memory card
Comfortable, decent sized bag
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 - one of the best lenses for learning with IMO.

First thing is well done u
I got mine last week too:thumbs:

Extra sd cards (I use SDHC) But first a tripod I got mine from Argos £22.49 165cm height, fine for me
and I am off on my first dawn shot tomorrow, (Alarm clock is a good idea)

PS remember to check out insurance just in case, dont want to be cryin
So get out there and be happy
