What should i get next

Wasn't sure where was best to put this but hopefully here will be best.

I'm on the look for the next component to add to my kit which currently consists of;
Canon 50d
Speedlite 430exII
Canon 50mm f1.8
Canon 18-55mm
Canon 55-250mm

I am torn between either bolstering my lens selection with a macro lens or a broad general lens like the 18-135mm, getting the interfit exd200 studio kit or getting the BG-e2n battery grip. Any advice out there of where I should expand my kit?
 
What is it that you think you are lacking in your present kit? Maybe a faster lens or just better optical quality.
 
Well, for starters, what do you shoot, what would you like to shoot and where do you think you have limitations at the moment?
 
Tripod?
Remote release?
Macro Lens?

Why do you want to expand it anyway? Are you a gear head? Or do you actually use the stuff once you've bought it?
 
If you start by deciding what it is you want to do, it will be a lot easier deciding what you need to do it ;)

Aquiring the gear without an idea in mind makes this a very expensive hobby.. ..
 
William, first of all, welcome to the forums.

There's nothing wrong with the gear you've got. It may not include any L lenses, but will serve you well for a pretty broad range of general photography. The items you've suggested are diverse, and don't point in any particular direction. What do you want to do? Perhaps you just have some money burning a hole in your pocket and fancy something new? Nothing wrong with that, a lot of us suffer from the same temptations, and it's known as Gear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS)!

Just give us an idea of what you have in mind, and we'll try to help.

Right firstly sorry for the delay in getting back to everyone. I currently do a lot of photography mainly around the conventions I go to and some portrait photography at home, I want to expand this but also try to take in doing product photography since my girlfriend has taken up to making here own cakes and crafts. I haven't exactly got money burning to be spent but just wish to get something to add to my kit whilst I still can as i am looking at getting my own place soon and doubt i'll manage to get enough money together after I do so.
 
Get yourself a macro lens-good fun and super portrait lens.If you buy a secondhand Tamron or Sigma you will probably get your money back if you decide its not for you.
 
Get a wide-angle - something like the Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6. It's a fun lens and handy indoors for fitting lots in.

Use the 50mm for product stuff, and bounce flash if need be. Consider a tripod also, maybe?

With the convention portraits, what do you mean by "expand"? Do you have an idea of a style or examples you'd like to be able to attempt? I've had a quick look at your DA gallery and seen some fairly standard full length, natural light portraits. There's quite a bit that could still be done there with your existing kit.

A macro could help with your product photography, but I wouldn't rush in to that too soon, if you've got the time and the inclination I'd recommend reading Light, Science and Magic which is pretty much a how to guide when it comes to lighting.

Don't spend too much when you don't have to, you'll need it when you get your own place :thumbs:
 
Have a look and see if you can find a good cheap macro lens, you can always use it for the product shots and as a portrait lens too if you get the right one. 2 birds etc.
