What Should I get as my First Tripod?

Just realised I wasn't being fair with my comparison, the Manfrotto I should have been looking at is the 496RC2 which is closer to £100. The 486 doesn't allow you to pan and the red snapper does, ah well another £50 to red snapper.

Anyone in the market for a brand new 3 way red snapper panning head ;-)

Does anyone have some more pics of their red snapper unit? They seem like a great price :D

Unlike the digital technology of cameras a good tripod should last a lifetime, quite literally, so it is worth getting a good one in the first place. Work out what you need for the shooting you do and spend as much as you can afford on a good quality one that you will keep for a long time.

They actually feel and look a lot more sturdier in person, than on the website pictures. For the price, it's amazing. I have nothing to compare to, but I can't imagine that the pricier models of more expensive brands are any better/sturdier, unless you get some really heavy duty one that weighs twice as much as this one and far too much to feasibly carry around. The head on it can be upgraded at a later date if needed, but for £50 with a free head and bag, it really is a good buy.

I'll try get some photos up later on if I have the chance.

Had my redsnapper tri-283 and ballhead about 12mths now and still going strong as the day it arrived, very well made.......
