I am a wedding photographer .
I have a choice between a nikon d800 and a canon 5d mark III . What should I buy .
I currently use two nikon d7000's.

Hi

Welcome to TP.

As you already have Nikon gear would it not be better to get the Nikon unless you have a large budget and are thinking of moving to Canon.

Hi studio7goa, welcome to TP.
Personally I'm a canon user, as such don't really know much about the Nikon range, the 5D3 is an awesome camera IMO, and would love to recommend it, however sep9001 makes a very sensible and valid point about already owning Nikon so the logical step would be another Nikon.

The canon would give great results, as I'm sure the Nikon would.

Hi, Both are very fine cameras, but as a business person and Pro Tog it would make sound sense to stick with Nikon. As somebody else said why not sell one of the 7000s and purchase the D800.

You would then have two cameras that are "Similar" to use, any dedicated flash units will be compatible with both cameras, any lenses will fit both cameras although if you are using DX lenses at the moment you would only be able to use them on a D800 in crop mode.

And financially it would be less of a strain on your pocket.!!!

lets put it this way ,I have recently purchased the Nikon D800 and absolutely delighted with it, but have to also point out you do need to get the best FX lenses to do it justice.
In tiff mode the files are enormous , big enough to put on the side of a house
